Teacher Forced Out for Using Confederate Flag in Civil War History Lesson

“He’s personally my favorite teacher in the whole school,” Ana Kneisely told CBS Sacramento, in reference to a middle school American History teacher, Woody Hart, in Rancho Cordova, California, who was forced to retire by the Board of Education.

Hart, a 70-year-old teacher at Suttle Middle School of the Folsom Cordova United School District, was ousted after using a Confederate battle flag, along with a period United States flag, as part of a lesson on the U.S. Civil War. The school’s superintendent, Deborah Bettencourt, released a statement late last week that the board of education had “accepted this Sutter Middle School teacher’s retirement ... and he will not be returning to school this year.”

I thought history was one topic that would be safe from the politically correct police. This story is so bizarre that it makes me wonder if the flag was a pretext for removing an employee that some may have felt was too old.

I would say this story gives a new meaning to the saying "history is written by the winners." It may need to be updated to "history is mangled by the majority party." Now that I think about it, the latter is basically a better description of what's really happening with the former.

Where is all this headed? I never would have imagined the politically correct police trying to change the way history is taught.

Well the majority of voters in Sacramento County are white Democrats, and they often like to virtue signal by getting rid of anything they think might offend somebody, anybody, anywhere so I mean....why are we so shocked?

So this teacher was fired for using historical items to illustrate his lesson, but I'm sure the protesting pre-school teacher I saw a video of this morning who advocated killing people and taking their houses and money won't even get a slap on the wrist.

trying to teach civil war history without a confederate flag is like trying to teach civil war history without mentioning secession.

If that is all there was to it, then it is outrageous. It would be crossing the line between acceptable teaching and overreaching and vague school policies.

However, I can only find this on small right wing sources. Fox news has a small blurb they pulled from Heatstreet.

I am thinking there is a little more to it.




It seems the first complaint was in November. There was a complaint. The school is obligate to investigate complaints. The complaint was about this:

While the class graded a test during an 8th grade American History class at Sutter Middle School, a student asked the teacher to give an example of equality.According to Tyrie and Victoria McIntyre, whose 13-year-old son Tyler was in the class, the teacher said, “When you hang one black person, you’d have to hang them all. That is equality.”

The teacher was questioned and he gave the context of the answer. I believe him and his answer was good. But, at that time, he was directed to use more 'appropriate examples and strategies'. The school district has policies for teachers. The complaining parents wanted him fired, which he was not.

Then, this happened. There was another complaint. It wasn't out of the blue. I do think it is harsh, but he was of retirement age and will receive his full pension for a long and positive career.

I think people have. LOl. I don't pay attention. There was only one av I ever alerted (it was truly disgusting).

I don;t think that flag is banned from an av. I think a few ppl used it when there was hoopla over amazon not selling it.

If it's in text books, in a same manner as that teacher's display, then it seems like the school was behaving more PC than anyone else against the teacher, but against the nation's history when you need to consider text books themselves are filled with words, none of them of them perfect, just some are perhaps better than others.
There's nothing to say that the teacher didn't think, the flag has nothing to do with the present, but the past, everyone knows what it looks like, many use it wrongly I think, but bear in mind that even the National Socialist German Workers' Party flag..the Nazi flag, is able to be seen as in display for a variety of reasons including educational.
Anyway, nobody actually said he 'pulled' something, what is clear that some objected to the display, a Black couple I think, it's not clear why though, unless there is something underhand by the teacher we are are not being told about properly.
Some countries have no restrictions on flags, or flag waving including the Nazi flag, or even vocal racism etc, however the purpose of use could put somebody in the pockey should the intent be to incite discrimination or hate or harm.

I think I'd S&F anyone who try to use it here. I never understood what's the problem with that flag. Dukes of Hazzard were the best.

Actually, I believe there is a "Warrior" that has one in his Avatar, last I knew.

And I think it is over the top to fire this man. While he is 70, he sure seemed to be liked by the students, and maybe this job is what kept him going?
