If i told this concept to my crystalstone healing exwife she would smile and say: Finally science catch up with what i have tried to explain all the time.

Except this doesn't heal anything, and it's 10 ytterbium atoms near absolute zero, not a chunk of quartz.

Crystals don't heal anything. Unless you need to be hit with a rock.

I like that song too.

Same here........

I see how it relates to the topic too.

Smart.....

Text ABSTRACT

Despite being forbidden in equilibrium, spontaneous breaking of time translation symmetry can occur in periodically driven, Floquet systems with discrete time-translation symmetry. The period of the resulting discrete time crystal is quantized to an integer multiple of the drive period, arising from a combination of collective synchronization and many body localization. Here, we consider a simple model for a one-dimensional discrete time crystal which explicitly reveals the rigidity of the emergent oscillations as the drive is varied. We numerically map out its phase diagram and compute the properties of the dynamical phase transition where the time crystal melts into a trivial Floquet insulator. Moreover, we demonstrate that the model can be realized with current experimental technologies and propose a blueprint based upon a one dimensional chain of trapped ions. Using experimental parameters (featuring long-range interactions), we identify the phase boundaries of the ion-time-crystal and propose a measurable signature of the symmetry breaking phase transition.

Of course!!!

Just whatever you do, do Not cross the streams... except when you are peeing with friends, of course, cause that is fun and it's called "sword fights". Or "light sabers".

As Franklin is supposed to have said, "What use is a newborn baby?"

Interesting share

It seems that the multiple laser bombardment of the ytterbium atoms that build the crystal structure some how alter the pattern medium of the crystal.
With the foundation or medium that the crystal forms it's patterning upon being altered the original paths the atoms follow which make solid ground state or equilibrium patterns is too altered.

Though the atoms may still carry their original forces that keep them uniform in patterning. This force may be what is observed holding the form of the new matter jello like ground state as a new patterning assembly of the atoms continuously appears to be in motion why the atoms are attempting to regain equilibrium without the original pattern medium.
So basically the act of the atoms trying to regain equilibrium without the possibly altered or removed original medium causes the atoms to remain in consistent motion as the new pattern forces it's uniformity or tries to if 1 is following correctly...

This is kind of like Deja Vu all over again! Maybe we are all stuck in a time crystal... I wonder if it is dark?

A team led by Chris Monroe of the University of Maryland in College Park built a time crystal, and Potter and Yao helped confirm that it indeed had the properties they predicted. The team announced that breakthrough -- constructing a working time crystal -- last September and is publishing the full, peer-reviewed description today [March 8] in Nature.

A team led by Mikhail Lukin at Harvard University created a second time crystal a month after the first team, in that case, from a diamond.

ScienceDaily.com, March 8, 2017 - Scientists create new form of matter, a time crystal.

So this has been announced three times? This time two things are different, peer reviewed in Nature and duplicated in another substance, diamond, at Harvard. I really wish they would stop using the same headline! It should read, "Scientist theorize a new state of matter: time crystals" (2016 story), next, "Scientists create a time crystal" (OP's posting) and finally, "Peer reviewed and duplicated, new state of matter: time crystals" (today's "news" on all the science sites).

Seems we have crossed the old mechanical bowling ball, solar system view of an atom, to the wacky world of the quantum. Now, if only Tesla had created this in his lab...
