For clarity in reporting, posters should distinguish Facts from Alt-Facts. This can be done both in the post and inside the external quote box, as follows:

A. In post:

FACT

Executive Orders are not used or required to (re)direct departmental activity - standard Operating Procedure is to use memos, emails and verbal orders.

ALT-FACT

You have to prove Trump issued an Executive Order (EO) to gag departments and scientists. [Note: You do not. See "FACT" above.]

B. In external quote box:

Trump Administration Puts Gag Order on Several Government Agencies

[THE FACTS]

Employees at several federal agencies including the Department of Agriculture have been barred by the Trump administration from making any statements, or providing any documents to the public or journalists

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Health and Human Services …orders …include a prohibition against some of the agencies posting on social media.

…The EPA has also been ordered to freeze all grants, contracts and other agreements until further notice, according to numerous reports.

…The memo also ordered that …staff send a list of any external speaking arrangements, that no new documents be uploaded to any public website, and that "incoming media requests will be carefully screened."

…Staff at the USDA's Agricultural Research Service also got a memo on Monday telling them not to provide any documents to the public

…Employees of the Department of Health and Human Services were also told not to publish any new documents or correspondence in any public forum, including the Federal Register, and not to discuss any documents or rules with public officials

[THE ALT-FACTS]

…press secretary Sean Spicer …said his understanding was that the department (tsk) “inappropriately violated their own social-media polices [and] there was guidance that was put out to the department to act in compliance with the rules. "Spicer added that he wasn't aware of any changes to media policies affecting either the EPA or the USDA but that he and his staff were looking into it.

This should be in the "Education and Media" forum.

Well maybe not.

Honestly... the verbal exchanges should be simplified even further for our ever shortening attention spans. How So?

Alphabetized letters should never equate to 100% fact... 99% at most. Always leave at least 1% of space to expand the realities that... FACTS CAN CHANGE EVERY SINGLE SECOND AS TIME GOES.

Equating numbers... okay, now we are in the zones that can equate to 100% fact.

What this means... each story we hear, think of it in terms of it all being science fiction... nothing more than the highest probability of fact. There are quite a number of life questions that I offer somewhere around 51% fact... that means at times I am equally wrong as I am right when organizing words.

Hence, the term 'Alternative Fact!'

I think we're now living in an "Alt-Reality". With the technology out their and the persistence and willingness of the media to tell outright lies makes us need to fact check everything we hear and see. Goodbye to journalistic integrity and honest reporting..

This could very well have been a picture someone used to say Trump is goofing off in the Oval Office, and people would have believed it! That's the sad part

Exactly, so time has to be stopped completely to be able to determine a full fact... then it be dismantled when time resumes... providing alternative realities. We can steer probability, but not outcome because it changes all the time.

What's real for one person and fake to another should always be put into question... without the expectations of a full conclusion. Once a full conclusion is determined, divide starts to breed.

If your "facts" reinforce a party line (whatever party) then they're alt-facts.

The world isn't black and white. People or stories that try to convince you it is are spreading "Alt-Facts" or fake news circa 2015.

Trumpkins I'm looking at you.

Nothing has changed. ...Not so long ago people got their news from King's Proclamations and Papal Bulls - and wandering minstrels singing stories of alternate perspectives.

Those in power have always mucked with the truth.

Anyone, ever, who thought they could hear or read something, memorize "the facts" and never question them, or think about things, remained uninformed and sadly ignorant.

Anyone, ever, who is committed to informing and educating themselves has always sought more and more information from as many sources as they can find - continually sifting, evaluating, contrasting, comparing and thinking.

fyi - that's pretty much the definition of the scientific process. Accept no "facts" as absolute: keep on collecting data, sifting, evaluating, contrasting, comparing and thinking.

And don't stop.
