Serious question: ghosts, demons, witches, wizards, warlocks....and what else should I know about?

Can someone write a list so I can research each of these 'things' plus what you can contribute?

You will manifest whatever you create/believe in.

The immediate question I'd have would be...list of what, exactly? I can think of several categories these would all fit into.

Here is a good read and a good start.

Informative read if your just starting to ask questions.

That's kind of what I'm trying to do.

Making a list and 'catagorising' them.

There are several people on the site that could help, but it would depend on your intentions. I'd be really careful with opening some of those doors, though. You never know what (or who) you're going to invite in.

Maybe I'm looking for some occult terms?

Or just to know what 'types' of people there are.

I already search on wiki for occult terms but didn't understand half of them.
Anyway, no one has added to the list yet...

Well, what I can't tell is if you're looking for mythos, mental illness, magic users, historical misconceptions, comparative religion, folkways studies, etc. There's a lot of ways to group this.

eta: for instance, you might also be researching stuff for, say, a D&D sort of thing. Or you might be looking for various types of fiction.

That was helpful by itself.

Myths (that are commonly accepted as true)
Religion (that are commonly accepted as true)
And what magic users believe in.

I'm also interested in separating truth from fiction if possible.

goblins
hobgoblins

centaurs
minotaurs
giants
ogres
clerics
shamans
elfs
fairies
pixies
sprites

hmmm... start with that and get back to us

Well, as our president might say, this is a YUUUGE question. The best question. He has the best answers.

The scope is, truthfully, actually sort of wide, especially if you haven't ever studied it at all. Do you have a Kindle reader on your machine, or some sort of Kindle device?

Thanks, that might keep me busy for a while...

Is there more than that/what else should I be 'aware of'

Thanks again for your answer

I don't have a kindle yet, why'd you ask?

Why can't people roll out a list like vector99?

That they aren't real things. Pretty cool mystical figures nonetheless. Each has their own trait that makes them pretty cool.

Well, for a paltry 99 cents, you can grab a copy of Frazer's Golden Bough from the Kindle store. If I had no exposure to the mythos of faerie, magick or folk belief systems at all, that's a really good place to start.

Because, me boyo, there are a thousand cultures, and a thousand religions, and a thousand religions past, and each has a set of abilities, practices, beings and so on, all different, and some similar. Before you start diving into the river of information, you need some basic grounding on the terminology and concepts so you have built a wall, and hung some hooks on it. Otherwise you'll read this stuff and instead of sticking on the hooks in your mind, it'll just drop off into a confused jumble.

At some point, you'll start finding out about just how many there are. But there's a lot of archetypal crap you need to have in your head so that all this info will have niches to fit into. Just plunging into santeria, hexerei and the tree of life won't actually mean anything if you don't, and that's before you get into different First People belief systems etc.

There are patterns to all this stuff. But you have to do the basic studies first. Can't just grab an athame and start burning cats on the grill, you know.
