In the AG's opinion the order was not defensible. Can the president order the AG around like that?

So he can order her to do something at peril of her job... and did.

Actually, technically, he didn't have to order her to do anything.
As I understand it, it's in the job description to defend the government. I guess would be like a public defender having to defend someone they suspect to be guilty.

Gosh, do you think she knew what was going to happen?

You may be right on that. Her job is to defend the administration. I'm really not 100% sure.

If she didn't realize what would happen, she's dumber than a retarded rock. What line is Trump famous for?

"You're fired!"

This whole thing could be the run up to Trump's impeachment. It's not nearly as critical a situation as Nixon's "night of the long knives", in terms of the issues involved, or is it? The issue is not one of personal culpability but a perceived constitutional issue is being brought into question. Who knows where it will lead?

It was real right wing when Obama did it too.

When Obama did what?
when Obama signed the Terrorist Travel Protection Act.

Sounds to me more like she was a sacrificial lamb for the left to get a few more news cycles out of the anti trump bs.

Trump did nothing illegal.
Sheesh.

The EO was reviewed by the DOJ Legal Counsel.
Many other presidents have signed EO regarding immigration, including Obama.

People who are not citizens have no legal or constitutional right to come into our country.
It is a privilege at the discretion of our government.

If everyone had a "right" to come here, what do you think would happen?
If everyone could sue for being denied entry, what do you think would happen?

Sorry. I'm not familiar with that act. Did it stop processing of refugees?

It's only a temporary ban . .

You honestly believe that?

Yes. It is the same as legislation that was done a while back by Obama and congress. There will be stricter rules in the future after the ban though, they will be able to use social media comments to deny someone. Maybe they will kick out some immigrants that are starting chaos here before they get citizenship too. You know if you were not a legal citizen before and you made waves, you were kicked out of this country. Those rules are still on the books, no law has to be passed to enforce them.

Just so you know as we go along here, it is the process of doing things that I'm watching.

I am a methodical thinker. I like things planned out. I like problem areas addressed before decisions are made.

I am not a fan of "trigger finger" implementation.

Did you ever watch Ghostbusters? How long would it have taken those guys to get rid of ghosts if they had to follow all the legal normal procedures and had to follow strict laws that gave those ghosts...

Holy #..did you just defend Trumps executive order based on the plot of the movie Ghostbusters??

It would be outrageous if I didn't have a suspicion that Trump thinks similarly.

God help us...

I'm not saying he did anything illegal, but the State of Washington is going to file a lawsuit asserting that his EO is a violation of the Constitution. It just struck me that firing the acting AG is reminiscent of Nixon's firing of the Watergate Special Prosecutor. When you get to firing officials in situations like this, it seems clear that the president is at serious loggerheads with a substantial opposition to a course of action.

Will the situation be diffused or will opposition grow and possibly become an attempt to run him out of office?

I thought about that. Maybe she was a martyr? But I sorta doubt it... Sally Yates is not a big name in politics.

Unless she intends to use this to change that?

No, it was not. It was reviewed b Rudy Giuliani and Jeff Sessions...

That was actually one of the many things that made it unusual...no review from DOJ and DHS....that's why the rollout was a cluster-eff
