He is the president. He has the power and authority to do whatever is necessary for the safety of American citizens, at home and abroad.

Are people reading more than just the headline here?
The bill that was passed in 2015 was a ban on those traveling WITHOUT visas into the US. What's happening today is a ban on travel irregardless of any LEGAL visas priorly obtained. This ban affects people visiting family, people currently traveling for work, green card holders, folks on vacation, etc. It affects law-abiding people who took the necessary measures to travel LEGALLY to this country. It's absolutely not the same.

A lot, but they do not prioritize Christians. America will prioritize Christians.
Refugees: Sweden's Deadly Double Standard against Christians
STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- While Europe has welcomed in thousands of Syrians, mostly Muslims, it's a different story for Pakistani Christians. In Sweden, many are being ordered to return home -- and some may face death. Hundreds of thousands of Muslim migrants have sought a better life in Europe. Pakistani Faisal Javaid became a Christian after he arrived in Sweden.

It is time to leave the call of violence and the politics of division behind. On so many issues, we face a choice between the promise of the future, or the prisons of the past. And we cannot afford to get it wrong. We must seize this moment. And America stands ready to work with all who are willing to embrace a better future.
The future must not belong to those who target Coptic Christians in Egypt — it must be claimed by those in Tahrir Square who chanted, "Muslims, Christians, we are one." The future must not belong to those who bully women — it must be shaped by girls who go to school, and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons.
The future must not belong to those corrupt few who steal a country's resources — it must be won by the students and entrepreneurs, the workers and business owners who seek a broader prosperity for all people. Those are the women and men that America stands with; theirs is the vision we will support.
The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.
Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims and Shiite pilgrims. It's time to heed the words of Gandhi: "Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit." Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies, that's the vision we will support.
There hasn't been any extreme vetting, even for green card holders...That's why it's happening now...If these green carders want to travel back and forth between the U.S. and terrorist muzlim countries, they certainly need to be thoroughly investigated before they are allowed back in...

Yep.
You found them out.
Totally the same thing.
Do you understand what a "visa" is? Apparently not. Trump is turning away people who not only hold a visa, they are people who have already been subjected to "extreme vetting!" If you risked your like in Iraq serving as, say, a translator, how would you feel if the United States spent two years doing security checks on you, gave you a thumbs up, then refused to let you immigrate there for your own safety and that of your family?
and that has been quickly corrected, within 24 hours. Now WHAT?

Actually it isn't the same at all but you can believe that if it makes you feel better.
Notice the words "without a visa" in the very first sentence. That means that WITH an appropriate visa they could still travel here but would be kept out without one.
Note how some people were able to travel here without a visa until the "waiver overhaul."
This is absolutely and 100% not
The same thing as a complete ban on travel including people with appropriate visas.
What is happening now is a bloody nightmare.
