The Hypocrisy of the left on Muslim ban - democrats supported it in 2015

The hypocrisy of the left is just astounding. While they ramp up their attacks on Trump and the right they seem to have forgotten that they supported a ban on Muslims from Iran, iraq, Syria and Sudan back in Dec of 2015, including President Obama.

This is another example of the left taking a stance based on politics and nothing more.

CNN Dec 2015 - House passes visa waiver overhaul

Washington (CNN)The House overwhelmingly passed legislation on Tuesday (407 to 19) that would overhaul the federal visa waiver program and bar those from Iraq, Syria, Iran and the Sudan, or those who have visited those countries in the last five years, from traveling to the United States without a visa.

Action on the proposal comes in response to the recent attacks in Paris from ISIS operatives, and the shooting in California by a couple that expressed support for the terror group on social media.

"This will help neutralize the threat from foreign terrorists entering our country," House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Tuesday.

The GOP proposal, which top House Democrats have endorsed, calls for greater sharing of information among the 38 countries that participate in the program with the United States. Currently those eligible can travel for limited time periods without having to apply for a visa. The bill would authorize the Department of Homeland Security to terminate any country's participation in the program if it doesn't adequately transmit data. It also looks to beef up efforts to detect fraud from those traveling with electronic passports.

President Barack Obama called on Congress to address the visa waiver program during his prime-time address to the nation on Sunday about his administration's efforts to combat the threat from ISIS.

The Democrats, and Obama, supported a ban back in 2015 from Syria, Iraq, Iran and Sudan. The left and their typical grandstanding is getting old.

The No. 2 House Democrat, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, said he worked closely with GOP leaders on the visa waiver bill and that the measure said it was "reasonable" and "measured" plan. He contrasted it with the call from Donald Trump, the billionaire businessman who is calling for a ban on all Muslims from entering the U.S.

"The important issue here is no one is excluded by this bill. There are however additional requirements designed to ensure that those who come in this country are in fact not a risk to this country," Hoyer said.

ETA:
and apparently in 2011 -
2011: Obama paused Iraq refugee program for 6 months - 1 national who had aided U.S. troops was assassinated before application processed

The EO signed by Trump does not ban all Muslims from coming to the US. His EO lists the same countries that Democrats supported in 2015 with the addition of 3 others.

So democrats wanted to ban people who didn't have Visas, and Trump banned people with Visas?

Totally worth a thread...I used to not even get into politics and when I did it was against all the draconian bush era legislation that sure looked to be paving the way for dictatorship. Boy was I wrong for ever supporting the DNC...I look now and all that seems to come from the left now is immature, insane, pure hypocrisy, and hate/intolerance. These facts need to be shoved into the faces of those not even honest enough to acknowledge the truth is politics just doesn't benefit any of us in general, and when someone finally comes around and actually starts doing what he said he would it's a good thing especially when what he promised to do was help the people...Not globalists and big money lobbyists. No one's perfect and I don't expect much from politicians but Trump has so far done more for us than any president I have been alive for.

And, let the 'Who can piss where' games begin... HB2 looks kind of laughable in relation to this bathroom debacle!!!

Notice the last quote in this added video? It says that Iran will be a Great gift to extremism! I guess Haley knows where to tag that particular name...

Actually it isn't the same at all but you can believe that if it makes you feel better.

Notice the words "without a visa" in the very first sentence. That means that WITH an appropriate visa they could still travel here but would be kept out without one.

Note how some people were able to travel here without a visa until the "waiver overhaul."

This is absolutely and 100% not
The same thing as a complete ban on travel including people with appropriate visas.

What is happening now is a bloody nightmare.

Do you understand what a "visa" is? Apparently not. Trump is turning away people who not only hold a visa, they are people who have already been subjected to "extreme vetting!" If you risked your like in Iraq serving as, say, a translator, how would you feel if the United States spent two years doing security checks on you, gave you a thumbs up, then refused to let you immigrate there for your own safety and that of your family?

Didnt read it did you?

and bar those from Iraq, Syria, Iran and the Sudan, or those who have visited those countries in the last five years, from traveling to the United States without a visa.

bar those from iraq, syria, iran and sudan. It would ban people who visited those countries in the last 5 years from coming to the US without a visa.

The ban for the 4 countries is the same as trumps.

He's calling the terrorists out. There are sleepers in the U.S, waiting to respond to such an action.

He's beefing up his military and security to call them out and deal with any problem on his own door step.

He's going to make America great again.

You should try to recognise sarcasm.

Even if text alludes most, I thought that one was pretty obvious.

Why are you concerned about having/not having visas?

Trump is banning a demographic whose beliefs and are taught that they must murder you because you dont believe in allah.

Having or not having a visa is irrelevant.

I bet you get outraged when there is a terrorist attack? Yet when the president does something to stop the inflow of terrorists - you get outraged.

You can't have it both ways.
