MysticPearl. I think the whole state has to go. I don't think rationalizing with the left is open for debate.

You know? I think this would be a great move for them...wink...wink...nudge...nudge. Maybe you can explain why this would be great for them to do.

If California left it would have a negative net effect on the economy. They pay quite a bit more than they recieve in their relationship with the union.

Don't be so quick to cheer them on. Its the way it should work....people create the states and communities they want to live in. Don't begrudge them that, even if you think its morose.

It's insanity.

We're the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not the " Oh we aren't getting our way so we wanna leave "

Wake up Cali, the public doesn't get it's way daily, and you're a state, this doesn't speak well for their government staff, they boost creativity yet aren't willing to help the very country that allowed them the population they have?

Not to mention, this isn't going to hurt the government of the US or Cali,

It's going to hurt American Citizens and Californians as families will be split and most likely much more negative will take place on scales we're just not able to see right now.

Mike Judge you're a damn prophet...

I don't begrudge them...quite the opposite...I applaud them...

We seek to encourage the dissolution of her statehood as a member of these United States and seek not the bearance of nationhood but it's creation...

In fact, let's come up with names of their new country...
The United Socialist Union of California....or U-SUC
Californian Republic of Angry Progressives....or CRAP

Wasn't there a push from some of the more republican counties in northern California to split off and create a new state called Jefferson ? As i understand it some of the new such state would include parts of Oregon as well.

Either way if California wants to split as they consider themselves not politically aligned with the rest of the country, couldn't these northern counties make the same claim and thus split from California and stay with the U.S in such a case ?

I'm sure(or maybe not) most in the U.S wouldn't want to see anyone split off from their country, but...seriously...this would be a Republican's wet dream if they could claim 1/4 of the land area of northern California that is still republican by creating the state of Jefferson, then allow(boot out) the other 3/4 land area of the state which includes millions of Democrat voters.

*(Land area is a rough calculation as per the state of Jefferson, could be 1/4, a bit less, or even more. Who knows, maybe as Calexit popularity grows in the south, Jefferson Statehood grows in the north ? )

they would have to import power from neighboring states as they dont produce enough power to supply their own needs ,and unless Oregon goes with them it would be much more difficult to get water for their crops. and as the president is responsible for negotiating treaties with foreign nations those power and water treaties would be up to trump to let them have water and power.throw in all the military, naval, federal lands and california would get a whole lot smaller then it is now. not that this matters as leaving the union is up to congress Or all of the states not sure which and that would not happen, and lastly with out the electoral votes from california a democrat would never be elected to the white house again so they would end up being pariahs of all the other dems for leaving the rest high and dry ,throw in the fact that the nuclear power plants would most likely get shut down and with no local sources of uranium/plutonium it would be pretty hard to supply desalination plants to get water from the sea .

and as others have said not all of california is on the same page politically so either a mass exodus or little pockets staying with the union vs leaving it could create quite the problem, conservative jefferson to the north and pockets of conservatives in sandiego area etc would pretty much isolate the middle of the state

Exactly. It would be great for them. California has nothing to lose. I say they should go for it. They are years ahead of the rest of America. Imagine how Great a country they would be. Go Cali. Go Cali. Please. Please.

That would be another great reason for them to leave. The rest of the country would not have to put up with their crap. It is a win, win situation and they could run their country the way they want to.

Excellent post. I agree 100%. Great names, but I think the US should just call them Those Guys.

The answer that has been proposed. California has a major economy. They can afford to buy power, or why not just become electrically independent. I have faith that they can do great things for themselves. No bad outcome for them. They should just go for it. I mean why would they put up with President Trump? Of course they would have to negotiate with him, but I am sure he will be more than fair with them. Yes, yes, I think it would be best for them.

It'll end up being Cascadia, and include Oregon, Washington, and probably part of British Columbia. They even have a nifty flag all lined up, in Seattle Seahawk colors no less.

www.forbes.com... not until 2030 and that would be 50% of their power needs, and again the president decides treaties so trump (if hes as evil as you guys think he is) could just say fine no water or power for California as california as an independent nation would have to go through trump to negotiate power from other states . look its not gonna happen if they try to seceed like the south they will get crushed like the south was, if they try to form their own nation and some how get permission to do it legally they will be out of power and water and any federally owned resources in their state and the us military would not leave the fleets and army marine naval bases under their control so no military so again if trump is as "evil" as you think he is he would send in the military and occupy them leading to probally laws like were used against the south (although not slave focused like last time) crush their industry dismantale their ability to wage war and pretty much crush the rebellion in its infancy

www.washingtonpost.com...

and en.wikipedia.org...

only one state that would eventually join the union successfully seceded and that was texas they fought a rebellion over it ,the thirteen colonies eventually again through rebellion managed to break away from the united kingdom but that was with bullets and blood no petitions and finally the Philippines manged to leave the union after being a territory by being granted independence

It would be terrible for them in the long run. Hollywood would lose access to Government assets to make their blockbusters. The universities would lose access to their secret weapon: ARL and AFRL. Silicon Valley would lose access to DARPA tech.

It wouldn't take long for it to end up with a small wealthy class lording over throngs of poor. I don't think California's plan has ever been that great for regular people. But if thats what they want, its their state.

www.dailywire.com... also what happens to federal pensions of those leaving the union that could take a good chunk of change away

www.usdebtclock.org...

they also took out a good sized loan from fed gov to fund their pensions which could also take a chunk out of their profits , if they try to leave all trump has to do is annouce a blockade of the californian coasts stop transport ships from landing and it would become quite difficult for them to get their goods anywhere but instate unless they want to ship to Mexico and use their ports which i would assume would be quite the logistical feat

Yeah all that stuff don't matter. The left doesn't care about things like money. They can do great things. For the love of God man. Don't take this from me.

I feel like im living in the Twilight Zone....

I remember the few times Texas was thinking about doing this, and much of the Liberal left went on and on about how they could never do it, theyd never make it......and the rest of them cheering them on to "please leave"

Now the tables have turned and its the left (not all of course, I wouldnt even say a majority) that want California to leave and say they could do it no problem......

So many things this last year have completely flopped........

I feel like myself and a minority of this country ( many of my liberal friends and some conservatives here on ATS) are the only ones who actually have STAYED where they are with their political and ideological views....

up is down and down is up......
