I think that is a valid point. The cycle needs to be broken, and it is going to be expensive.

are they leaving the kids? what is the point?

My point is some parents don't give a damn and they have kids who can't leave and have to stay where they are and get caught up in the stuff.
Saying just leave is not an answer to a cultural problem.

There is no easy answer.

These are the stats for Chicago the year we left.
People get hung up on the murder number. It's high but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of attempted murders. Look at the stat for aggravated assaults with a gun. Almost 8000.

You aren't just trying to wound when assaulting with a gun. If the bangers up there were better shots the number of murders would be even greater.

8000÷365= 21 attempted murders a day. Almost 1 an hour around the clock.

I truly believe you have to be insane or mindlessly ignorant not to run from that.

Actually leaving is a easy answer, unless you can't afford it.

Many people living there can't afford it.
They don't all have vans to move in to.

Yea those numbers are crazy.

Well good luck to the city. If Trump can do something thats already a step in the right direction.

The leaderships of Chicago are definitely the ones to blame for letting it reach these proportions.

Edit: another point I want to add is the music scene in Chicago . "drill" music.. Has an enormous influence. And guess who pushes it? The elite leftist conglomerates

Cardboard box, shopping cart, tarp and a tree...whatever it takes.

If you were dropped into Iraq with your family, without a penny, would you say " I can't afford to leave" or would you throw your kids on your shoulders and walk, with bleeding feet, to the border?

I would, and did. Not Iraq, but that was your analogy.
You are missing my point. This is cultural.
There are many kids living in high crime areas who can't do a damn thing about it.
They can't make their parents move.

Saying move away does nothing to solve the problem.
It just moves the problem.

Very true too, this is a problem with so many different avenues of blame it will take time and money to solve.

I dont think it gets solved. Leadership is inept. Chicago will become Detroit in the next 20 years.

Now you've got me picturing a refugee crisis, a sea of folks walking for their lives out of the CHICago with as much of their stuff as they can carry.

What is Trump's first action in Chicago?

He doesn't seem like a 1/2 measure type guy.

Tweeting them and putting them on notice was already more than previous leaders..

Beyond that as you can see in this thread its really hard to figure out.. Long term would be a lot more easier to come up with a plan.. Implement positive leaders and change the culture and somehow slow down the drug problem..

But I don't think they can wait that long so we are kind of in a rut ..

Do black lives really matter yet?

Just curious.....

The shootings are unbelievable. It is as if there is no law enforcement.

If I was told to solve the problem, there would have to be a special force that is trained to take gang type orgs out. Not get into gun fights, but totally remove and incarcerate them. And their numbers would have to be huge.

Didn't New York have a pretty bad issue with the violence and drugs in the late 70's early 80's?

It is pretty bad when you shoot people that are morning their loss.

I wonder if this was one person in the group that the shooters were after, and everyone else was collateral?
