Enrique Pena Nieto said he "lamented" the plans for the barrier, adding that "Mexico doesn't believe in walls".

But he made no mention of cancelling or postponing a trip to Washington on 31 January to meet the new US president.

Mr Trump has signed an executive order for an "impassable physical barrier" and has insisted Mexico would reimburse the US for it.

Mr Pena Nieto said: "I've said time and again; Mexico won't pay for any wall.

SOURCE

Is it time for Trump to create some new tariffs against Mexico to fund the wall? How about renegotiating NAFTA with annual payments included from Mexico for the wall? There must be a way, right?

I'm getting tired of asking the question, but does anyone still believe it doesn't matter who the POTUS is? I believe Trump has completely put that concept to rest. The ripple effects of Trump are everywhere, and I think they're mostly exciting.

Can anyone else feel revolution in the air? I can feel it, and it's electric.

Trump has said before that he plans on making Mexico pay for the wall by renegotiating trade deals (Nafta in particular) that are not in favor of the U.S.

www.cnn.com...

For some reason, certain people think Mexico must sign a check for the wall, when Trump has repeatedly said payment will come by way of better trade deals.

It doesn't even matter to me. It's an obligation of the president and the government to protect it's citizens and secure it's borders.

There's a way to directly make them pay and a way to indirectly make them pay... Mexico needs the US more than the US needs Mexico.. Not sure what kind of "plays" the Mexican President has to make here... He's really not in a position of leverage..

He should add a 10% "build the wall" surcharge on everything that is exported to mexico from the U.S. it will cost the Mexicans more to buy those things but they will still buy them because they don`t have an alternative.

I see sponsorship deals coming to this wall soon enough... Kinda like NASCAR where you have sponsors/writing all over the cars, but here it'll be on the wall! haha

The wall will pay for itself over time. In welfare, education, etc etc. California is drowning in debt, and Im pretty sure the illegals have a lot to do with it.

Personally I dont care how it gets paid for, just build it already.

exactly, it doesn`t matter how it gets paid for because in the long term it will save us much more than it costs.

In 2014, Mexico received a total of $332,311,612 in foreign assistance from the U.S. That breaks down into $281,093,177 in economic assistance and $51,218,435 in military assistance.
Link Source

US foreign aid and loans to Mexico will be adjusted and called in to offset costs - so too with cross-border economic trade tariffs which are likely to increase.....like robbing Peter to pay Paul because it's all US money anyway, except the inconsequental amount that comes through from Mexico via legitimate economic means. Pulling out of the UN will also free up funds.

Trump could also award construction contracts based upon a repayment scheme such that completion of contract/construction will result in those various contractors/manufacturers not being paid outright but rather over a set term of 1-20 years.

There are plenty of ways to get the funds without breaking the bank - another is to take 70% of next years Defense budget, and in so doing, have enough revenue to also get the entire wall gold plated whilst they're at it.

The majority of Illegal Mexicans fly into LAX or Atlanta or drive over in their own cars, on tourist visas and just never leave. How is the wall going to stop that?

Lol this is soooo stupid. I just was reading an article on yahoo where the mexican president will not attend a trump meeting at the white house because get this "there isnt anything to gain from it". Because trump will put up a wall and put tariff on their goods if they dont pay for the wall. Also mexicos presidents talk about redoing trade deals was a joke. They have conditions in their nafta deal they expect to stay the same lol. So they are talking to china lol in the very likely event trump exits the nafta deal with mexico. Damn the machismo of this mexican president we are not going to pay for a wall lol and we are keeping most of the nafta deal. How about that foriegn aid buddy? How much is your gas going to be? The people are going to attack him then the wall or people building it. If this hot head doesn't fold and except to loss. They had a great 30 years now its over

It's a misleading and dubious statistic and the article itself says it. The stats are there for the border and it has more to do with drugs, gangs and human trafficking. People are so brainwashed to think everything is racist. There are actual real problems that need to be addressed. Its has been a known issue for decades not last year when Trump mentions it. It's not going to be the "great Wall of trump" with one door in the middle, like people are hyperventilating about. It's going to be in strategic areas and will be a mixture of tall structured walls where needed, fencing, and technology to help our border pstrol secure the border more effectively. It's not a new idea, it's proven to work.

Actually it's the American citizen that voted for Trump that will like it. The ones who didn't liked paying for illegals to stay here the last 8 years.

That's right!

He can just shut the border for all I care. They can open their south borders if they want to go somewhere. After a while they will beg to build the wall and pay for it too

America has full rights to build a wall.

But it is the USA border and thus its the USA responsibility to pay for it.
