In the daily press briefing today, Spicer said that this order did NOT come from Trump or the White House.

He said he understands that the order came from within their own departments, and that they were requesting people to follow existing policies, because people were violating them.

As far as "standard business practice" goes - the Big Boyz compete for Patents and Intellectual Property Rights, and demand full confidentiality. But WE pay for this research and have a right to know what it is, and what the results are.

And if that research was funded only because it would produce results that support a political narrative without the balance of opposition science, did we get our money's worth?

Science is science. There is NO SUCH THING as "oppositional science."

Politics have no place in sound science.

EXACTLY!

It is probably just as important (if not more) to separate science from government just like the church.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

That would put scientific research solely in the hands of for-profit corporations - which is where all the problems originate!

I won't expect "people" to fully grasp that.

Spicer even said he couldn't have made it any more clear.

Even some of the "reporters" were restless.

Maybe it really is just a survival strategy. But then again, we already know Spicer lies through his teeth. And clearly feels pretty foolish about it.

POST-TRUTH, ALT-FACTS. Remember?

EPA never held to same standards as medical research has. They can use studies they never published but plan to as evidence for their reason to not doubt them. Not science but a cult. Try to dig beneath the surface and you will come up against this kind of appeal to authority.

That remains to be seen.

If a government pushes federally funded scientists to prove or disprove a belief or empower themselves or hide truths to further an agenda is acceptable?

Whereas a company pushing scientists to disprove something that's true would be counter productive to their bottom line, simple because other privately funded scientists would discover themselves and market it, thereby destroying the other company.

If certain companies didn't receive funding from government to protect their existing profits via lobbyists, than the company who wanted the truth silenced wouldn't stand a chance because they would lose business dramatically because the other company created a platform for the new tech. Whereas the company who choose to lobby could have used that money to modify their existing business plan.

Competition ensures growth and innovation.

Once again the government isn't a business so none of that crap applies. Trump doesn't want info about climate change coming from any government agency. We know he doesn't believe in science he believes in magic and the national enquired.

We're moving backward.

It looks like Trump is creating a Ministry of Truth where his administration will only allow scientific discoveries that agree with his agenda to be disseminated to the public.

exactly and the reason for that is because each individual employee doesn`t have the whole picture so they shouldn`t be saying anything to any one. the department heads and directors have a much clearer understanding of the big picture so they are the ones who should giving statements to the media.

As in "keep 'em in the dark and feed 'em all horsepoop"?

How very Orwellian. Sweet.

...Ever wonder why Chronic Wasting Disease is now epidemic? At all curious about how it's spreading?

They're not telling the reason why this is actually happening. It's because the Democrats are stalling on most of his appointments so he's basically not letting them do any more damage in the meanwhile.

Here's where I'm a bit lost.

If Trump (like Obama and Bush before) rely so much on executive order, than what good is congress and crafting legislation. Seems like we are getting closer and closer to dictatorship.

I

Yeah I'm kind of concerned about that seems like each administration gets their foot in the door and kicks it open just a little bit more. Once that doors been pried open none of them want to close it. Will the Constitution have any relevance when Executive Orders are now the rule of law?

Donald Trump being elected, and the censoring of government scientists can only mean one thing.

An asteroid is headed for earth. And the people who run this planet just said #### it.

I used the phrase opposition science, not oppositional science. Maybe a better phrase would have been, "the opposition's science" but opposition science is precisely how the last Administration viewed research that didn't support its political narrative.
