Whoa, wait a minute, not all these new employees are for patrolling The Wall and surrounding area. ICE agents are all over the United States. I was almost 300 miles north of the border when my neighbor's property was raided by INS back in the 1980s.

So he'll rescind the Federal employee hiring freeze?

Well he did say the freeze was in place except for military etc...I'm assuming this fits that?

Which jobs might I ask?

Picking fruit in southern California for 6 bucks an hour? Cleaning staff? Maids? Gardeners?

Illegals do all the jobs that regular Americans don't want to do or that employers aren't willing to pay them a decent wage to do.

There are no jobs, because all your corporations exported them. That's no an illegal immigration problem. That's a economic issue caused by tax system that rewards them for doing so.

The jobs issue is not an immigration issue, is a corporate greed issue. Also education, cause Americans are laughably ill educated for the jobs of the 21st century.

~Tenth

I have news for you, they're not just taking fruit picking and maid jobs. They're also not just laborers, they're also business owners, although a large majority are illegitimate businesses. I had to close the doors on my construction company as I could no longer compete with the illegals and sustain a law abiding company. I also lost my house as a result of this which created some other issues which eventually led to my divorce. I know many others that have had problems that were only compounded as a result of illegal immigration. So if you're only looking at the cost of illegal immigration in dollars and cents, your only seeing a portion of the actual cost of illegals.

You mentioned the fact that american citizens are in your own words "laughably ill educated ". Are you aware of the impact of illegals on our education system? It's sad, in the state I lived in there were so many illegals that test scores had to be dropped in order for kids to pass a grade, so that the state could continue to get federal funding. More than half were enrolled in ELL (English-language learner) classes. All of this at the cost and quality of my children's education and the real kicker, I'm frick'n paying for it with money I no longer have because of them in the first place. This is just a few examples of the cost of illegal immigration. My government has completely turned their back on me and millions like me that have had their life's greatly impacted in a negative manner by illegal immigration. What really pisses me off is that most of them don't give a crap about the well being of this country or the people in it. They're here to take and nothing more.

Just some food for thought, the repercussions are a heavy burden on US citizens and the "cost" is not just about money. Personally I think the wall is a silly idea, fine the people hiring them, teach your kids how to mow a lawn and a large part of the problem is solved.

To place a single guard on the wall around the clock (assuming the wall ever gets built, in 10 years work only ~675 miles have been completed to date IIRC) will require 21 eight hour shifts per week. At 5 shifts per person per week this will require 5 guards per station. 4 guards X 5 shifts= 20 shifts, plus 1 guard for the empty shift and to cover supervisors, sickness, vacation, training, etc etc. In all probability it will require more than this. 5000 divided by 5= 1000 stations.

And moving forward to 2017 you have a wall, you have cameras, you have drones, you have movement detectors....

What these can not do is actually round up the people to send them back...still need those pesky humans for that part.

How is ordering people to follow existing laws an exploitation of executive orders?
That is what Trump does in these orders.

I would say that Obama ordering people to NOT obey laws was a huge problem.

It does not matter if Trump healed the sick and gave sight to the blind... There are those so blinded by their MSN socialist NWO BS inspired hate they could never say "Way to go Trump !"

I'd rather see money put into fixing our infrastructure. The Wall seems foolish to me, and the cost will be even more so. 5000 can't cover a border and a 10 foot fence can't beat an 11 foot ladder. If he thinks borders are so important why not one with Canada?

I believe he will be putting a lot of $$ into infrastructure, it is just 5 days in.

As far as the additional 5,000. Combine that with the technology available and I believe it could be a VERY significant deterrent to would be illegal border crossers. I believe once the people who have intentions of crossing illegaly see that we are now serious the current floodgates will be turned off and people will decide it is just not worth trying anymore.

Amazing once people know you mean what you say and back it up, how they tend to follow laws a little better.

I like that!! A Manned Wall is for sure the way to go with that!

Also Sanctuary cities being removed is a Plus!!

Sending money to cities who break Federal Immigration Laws was CRAZY to begin with. Don't know why Obama couldn't see this. Keep that money and use it to help build the wall.

Give the agents the order to shoot illegals in the leg if they attempt to cross the border.

To get back to the thread subject, 5000 new border guards.

Lets assume that the current members of the border service continue to do their current jobs that are already woefully understaffed.

This assumes the staffing system is operating at 100% efficiency. As it will be managed by humans and staffed by more humans, 100% efficiency is impossible. Lets be VERY generous and say the system operates at 90% efficiency (in my entire life I have never seen any system containing humans operate this efficiently, but lets just say it does). 1000 stations X 90% = 900 stations.

The US-Mexico border is 1989 miles long. 1989 divided by 900 = 1 guard for every 2.21 miles. Considering the terrain along most of the border, each guard will not even be able to see the entire section he or she is assigned to.

Hmmmmm......

I'M not going to volunteer to be the guy in the middle of no where at 3 am with the nearest help over 2 miles away....

Please check my math, I am only human (see above).

I believe the technology available today will be able to drastically reduce the number of bodies needed on the wall.

There will be a reserve available to deal with what the technology picks up.

i wonder if trump realized the potential for abuse that exists within executive orders and plans to run his term in office through executive orders, as long as it follows the constitution, violates no laws or regulations and congress makes no act to stop him then he can do mostly what he wants through executive orders, i don't think any previous president had the nerve to truly exploit executive orders like this before.

MOST of this is already in the law, he is just taking the handcuffs off of law enforcement and letting them do their job.

Are you seriously advocating the exploitation of illegal immigrants, searching for a better life, to provide mundane services for the most affluent in society?

Oh dear................oh dear, oh dear.

Democrats always were the party of slavery (including modern-day welfare slavery) so I'm not sure why you sound surprised.

What if I told you that one of the biggest tire companies in the USA hires illegals. They are good paying jobs, but because of lax laws and loopholes they can hire illegals through shell temp agencies. They're not just picking fruit and working on farms.

Trump does it again. It just might be that he is actually working to make America better, and not towards fulfilling the globalist agenda? Too early to say, but so far he has done just about everything I could have asked of him.

Another contribution to the cost of the wall:

Top 10 U.S. sanctuary cities face roughly $2.27 billion in cuts by Trump policy

U.S. President Donald Trump's attempt to strip municipalities of federal dollars for shielding illegal immigrants threatens $2.27 billion in annual funds for the nation's ten largest cities, a Reuters analysis of federal grants found.

Trump plans to make good on his campaign pledge to block federal funding to states and cities where local law enforcement refuse to report undocumented immigrants they encounter to federal authorities, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said.

"The American people are no longer going to have to be forced to subsidize this disregard for our laws,” Spicer said.

Funny thing about walls, they keep people out but also have the side effect of keeping people in as well, lol. Just saying. So there's literally no escape from the trump, lol.

So he in continuing the policy of going after those that have committed crimes more then just entering the country while also using executive orders to bypass congress?

I thought when Obama did these things it was anti-democratic authoritarian dictator in chief.

Odd how we had a bill that would do more then Trump is proposing in 2013 that passed The Senate with bipartisan support but was killing by the GOP controlled House of Representives.

Obama opened Pandora's box and many of us told the lefties that if it were switched that they wouldn't like it. Well the chickens came home to roost. He had a pen and a phone, and so does trump.

Yes but unlike Obama for 6 years of his presidency, Trump has congress. He has no reason not to send things through congress. Why didnt he ask for the 2013 immigration bill to be reworked and passed by congress that his party controls?

Why do that when you have a pen and a phone? He doesn't have to rework anything. Obama showed us how to rule by executive fiat and now this is what happens.
