By the way how hard do you think it will be to get executive orders passed when the Republicans have a majority in the house AND the Senate. GAME OVER LIBS.

All valid points, I guess we will see how TPTB manage the problem. I heard a cost of $10 billion to build the wall.....when you measure the cost against the $130 billion that illegal immigration is currently costing American taxpayers it seems like a pretty inconsequential expense. I think the battle between Washington and Sanctuary cities will be a very divisive and unfortunate event....just one more result of having open borders. I blame G.W. Bush and Obama along with a feckless Congress for this disaster.

Its more than just about money.

Its not only that the Wall is the MOST costly method to control illegal immigration , but its also the least effective. You can always walk around, under, and over a wall or pay to get through.

More importantly you are not stopping the root cause of them coming, which are the jobs. Stop the root cause (incentive to work) then the issue becomes manageable. If you don't stop the root cause you are fighting an uphill battle.

The wall is not a manageable solution , its an uphill cat and mouse solution. While it will slow down some , it will be more effective in just deepen the pockets of the corporations that will build it and maintain it.

We are going to agree to disagree on this one. While the wall will not deter the truly motivated it will surely stop the rest. I think that your suggestion of penalizing those who hire illegals will work, the first order of business is curtailing the number of illegals available to work. We have to control our border, it isn't just Mexicans that are the issue.

its definitely not just mexicans , it all south of America that are coming for jobs and from other third world countries as well.

however the majority of them can be stopped by prosecuting the American companies giving them jobs illegally.

then all you have to worry about is the fewer coming illegally which are the drug dealers and terrorist.

legalize Marijuana and other drugs and then we just have to worry about terrorist.

stop being the world police ,savor and intermingling in foreign govt, then we can even stop terrorism.

Does not apply to illegally present non-citizens or criminals.

They come for murderers, shoplifters, and rapists too cause they break the law. Should we start protesting for serial killer rights or larcenist rights too?

It's about doing what is ethical.
According to US law, and, please don't laugh, I'm being serious, one is assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
No, I really didn't make that up!
So when we see police killing people for a broken turn signal, and less, brutalizing people, torturing people, then I would think HELL YES, an ethical person would stand for their right not to be tortured until after the trial.
For the Love of Mike, I'm not condoning violent criminality!

I mean seriously, everyone you named are still legal citizens of the country that have broken no laws. The illegal immigrants very presence is breaking our laws, and the impetus is specifically on those who've actually broken even more laws than just being illegal immigrants.

They have been here forever, before you were ever here.
Now, Trump and his merry band are in the process of demonizing them (not illegal Canadians, last I've heard), and insulting wall!
How devolved!
Then comes the round up and train ride.
Where have I seen this before...?
And he lied to his drooling minions about who's paying for his hateful idiot wall!

You're misapplying the quote and equating the tyrannical targeting of non criminal legal citizens as equivalent to enforcing the law on non-citizens who've broken actual laws.

Yeah, grandma Martinez is such a criminal!
Pay no attention to the real criminals about to grind your once beautiful country into sludge to sell for their own greedy profit!!
Yeah, get them damn Mexicans picking your fruit!
Can't wait to hear what you say when you have to pay $5. for a head of lettuce!

The impetus of government should always be to care for it's citizens first above all other peoples be they foreign or domestic.

But NOT at the expense of the rest of our brothers and sisters on Our planet!
And America's (gov't and people are) so frikking dysfunctional and broken, that isolationism is hardly going to be, ... the 'answer'.
Just put a lunatic in solitary...

I'd love to respond, but I'd need you to expand on that (if it's worth it)? *__-

So I should be upset that they are coming for criminals that are being sheltered by our political class for their own gain?

Define 'criminal'?
Would you say that anyone who has ever broken any law is a criminal?
Hmmmmm? *__-
Please, think carefully before answering...

And YOU are gaining plenty, or do you already pay $5.00 for a head of lettuce?

First they demonize them, using names like 'criminals', or filthy Jews, or 'infidels' or 'heathen' or, or, or....
Then there come the raids in the night, then in broad daylight, round that filthy scum, gooks... all up...

Then they are 'cleansed'.

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

While still being most on the fence(hah no fence of wall pun) about this, the above makes for a valid point taking into consideration if there's a full out force to go after them. Everyday citizens rights may also likely have to be set aside to meet criteria for strict immigration enforcement(as noted during the campaigning- a database for everyone if not just suspects innocent or not). How about detention camps?

A lone ethical voice in a tank full of frightened sharks...
Yes, that's how it begins!
Again.
