Whether we agree, or not.

So far, it's a refreshing thing to see. I don't necessarily agree with everything, but he's at least doing it.

ReutersU.S. President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Tuesday that he would "send in the Feds" if Chicago doesn't "fix the horrible 'carnage' going on."
In his inauguration speech on Friday, Trump accused the Washington establishment of protecting itself but abandoning regular citizens who have suffered from poverty and crime. "This American carnage stops right here and stops right now," he said.

There's no further substance to this article. I wonder who it is in the Trump Administration that's providing Reuters a heads-up??

There are something like 70,000 gang members in Chicago. I cannot begin to fathom the Federal force that would be required to ferret them out and neutralize them. We're talking elements the size of six or seven US Army Divisions of mercenaries that are well entrenched throughout the city. Where would they put 70K criminals if they caught them?

What would happen if the thugs started scattering across the US like cockroaches?

Hmmmm

Lake Michigan.

Chicago is not Iraq. Only so many ways to leave.

You don't think the Fed's are already combating gangs? And btw, gangs aren't just black and brown.

In other news, water is wet.

More at 11.

He could have the National Guard Patrol the Streets , and the F.B. I. Investigate Illegal Gun Homicides with Federal Judges hearing Cases that Violate Federal Laws With or Without the Consent of the Gov. of Ill. or the Spineless Mayor of Shootcago .

While folks safe from the carnage, snipe over the internet, folks in the crime ridden section of Chicago see hope....

You don't play politics with American LIVES..... IF the CITY FAILS to protect the CITIZENS due to politics...

And the State fails to step in... we finally have a leader who will...

The suffering must stop, the killing must stop... These are fellow citizens.. fellow Americans... not a subjugated voting block......

What about Detroit? The MOST crime. It comes in at #1 for violent crime. Should he not start there and then Memphis, Oakland, St Louis, Baltimore, Cleveland, Stockton, Indianapolis....there are many more before getting to Chicago's violent crime rate.

Is this some kind of lib pecking order?

Chicago is at the top of the list, deal with it.

And who's to say it won't be a multi city operation at the same time?

You think they will give a friggin heads up, like Obama does in the mid east?

What's you peoples problem?

Curfews and stop and frisk, shoot to kill.

As far as practical, real solutions, there are a number. But to think "send in the feds" is somehow anything resembling an answer, is ridiculous.

Do people not understand the complexity of the issue? People are like "finally, a president, Trump, is going to do something". Uh, if it was easy, someone simply "caring" would have fixed it a long time ago...

People acting like it's analogous to calling the Orkin man for pest control...

"We take an empty 2 liter Pepsi bottle, fill it with anti-bug juice, strap on a couple of M80s, and boom! Critters no more".

sounds great when you first think about it but couldn't trump use his role as president to help rebuild family values, education and jobs instead of threatening violence? thats all we need is a military force coming in cracking skulls putting more people in jail and creating more hatred from the inner city communities? why doesn't trump come down to the hood and stand with the people, because its much easier to send threats from twitter that's why!!

Nothing says values like getting your head cracked.

Like the guy asked the farmer what the 2x4 was for, it's to get the donkey's attention.

The stats on the shootings say 77.8% Black, 8.9% Hispanic, 8.9% Unknown, and 4.4% White.
Not far off from the claim.

Then shoot the ACLU too.

They have it coming anyway.

Feds have more prosecutable options for tougher sentences.

What's wrong with 5 yrs for weapons charge? Life for committing a felony with a gun? Death for a crime resulting in a death due to gun violence??

Shoot to kill?

Let many of them die first to help them take a step back and think.

Like ISIS.

Why should they not be treated like them? They're black instead of brown?

If these mofos were white how many of you would be calling for air strikes?

A very close friend, high up in the FBI, was head of the area that combated gangs-even in Minneapolis-I had no idea they existed there.

Now I live in Atlanta-major gangs. They're everywhere-it is a huge problem everywhere in the US.

Trump needs to address this as a national problem-not just Chicago.

Careful what you wish for. The practical way to deal with this is cut off their sources of funds ... and kill them the moment the opportunity presents itself. Trump's advisors know this.

A part of me says there is some hope but only some Chicago has been corrupt since Mayor William Thompson gave Al Capone the run of the city, its pension funds are a disaster,at least 21000 in CPS schools each year are being set up to fail for life, the city is flirting with bankruptcy etc etc...your going to need a seachange in management to make anything stick.

And don't forget that DA MAYOR has decreed Chicago a sanctuary city for illegal peeps. Any and all are WELCOME! Last week, the MEXICAN CONSUL in Chicago said:

"The Mexican consul in Chicago said that immigrants are flocking to the Windy City before Donald Trump is sworn in as President because Chicago is a sanctuary city, according to a report Tuesday in El Financiero.

Carlos Martin Jimenez was speaking at a recent gathering of Mexican ambassadors and consuls in Mexico City. He said that Mexicans in Indiana and Wisconsin are coming to the Chicago consulate due to it being a sanctuary for illegal immigrants."

Donald Trump's Federal Task Force will have it hands full trying to save Chicago from anarchy.

Well let's take a look at the annual homicides per year in Chicago:

sorry it's so cluttered!
1928: 498[72] 1964: 390[73] 1965: 396[73] 1966: 512[74] 1966: 510[75] [citation needed] 1967: 548[76] 1967: 522[75] [citation needed] 1968: 645[77] 1969: 715[78] 1970: 810[79] 1971: 824[80] 1972: 711[81] 1973: 862[82] 1974: 970[83] 1975: 818[84] 1976: 814[85] 1977: 823[86] 1978: 787[87] 1979: 856[88] 1980: 863[89] 1981: 877[90] 1982: 668[91] 1983: 729[92] 1984: 741[93] 1985: 666[94] 1986: 744[95] 1987: 691[96] 1988: 660[97][98] 1989: 742[99] 1990: 851[100] 1991: 928[101] 1992: 943[101] 1993: 855[101] 1994: 931[101] 1995: 828[101] 1996: 796[101] 1997: 761[101] 1998: 704[101] 1999: 643[101] 2000: 633[101] 2001: 667[101] 2002: 656[101] 2003: 601[101] 2004: 453[101] 2005: 602[101] 2006: 471[101] 2007: 448[101] 2008: 513[101] 2009: 459[101] 2010: 436[101] 2011: 435[101] 2012: 516[102] 2013: 441[32] 2014: 432[32] 2015: 492 2016: 762[103

You had a high of 970 in 1974. Between the years of 1990 and 1996 every one of those years were higher than 2016, some by quite a bit. Then from 2004 until 2015 you had rather historic lows. Does anyone in Chicago know why things are popping off so much right now? What happened?

I think shooterbrody hit the nail on the head when he said that the feds need to come in and clean up the CPD because those guys are CORRUPT.

This is a little snippet from a four part series about a gangster cop named Ronald Watts who was sentenced for stealing money from a drug courier:

The Intercept
“The chief of internal affairs is the most powerful person in the Chicago Police Department,” Spalding observed. “They report only to the superintendent.” Yet because of Rivera’s failure to exercise that power, “it shifted to the corrupt officers.” Watts understood this, she said. She heard him on more than one occasion say in the presence of other officers at the station house, “You think the feds are ever going to come against me? If they come after me, I’m going to sing a song so loud it’ll crumble the department and bring all the bosses down with me.” This was not idle talk, she said. He was sending a message.

I don't think Trump is talking about sending the Army to the streets of Chicago, he's talking about cracking heads in the CPD so they actually do their jobs instead enabling the other gangs to prey on the public. They're both criminal organizations.

It amazes me how excited Trump supporters get over s# like this. The Federal government has been involved in Chicago. There's FBI, DEA, ATF, etc all working in Chicago.

So what federal help are they supposed to be asking for? Contrary to what some posters seem to believe, the President cannot deploy National Guard troops for civil law enforcement. Posse Comitatus Act anyone? Gov. Rauner could deploy them but he's already made it clear that he has no intention of doing so.

Why? Because he talked to everyone from the cops to the NG brass and none of them thought it was a good idea. Why? Because it's not a good idea.

What is it exactly that folks expect the National Guard to do? I'd like to hear some specific suggestions.

It's not always so black and white reldra... sometimes you have to read between the lines...

Chicago Is Responsible for Almost Half of the Increase in U.S. Homicides

The murder rate in the U.S. is projected to rise by about 13% this year (2016), but almost half of that increase is due to violence in just one city—Chicago.

A new study released Monday by New York University’s Brennan Center projects that while crime overall in 2016 has remained virtually unchanged from last year, the murder rate is expected to rise 13.1% thanks to unprecedented violence in Chicago, which has seen more than 500 murders this year (2016) alone.

While Chicago is #24 on the list you've mentioned a bagillion times at this point, violence in Chicago is rising faster than in any other city. Thus, if action is taken now, Trump can stop the bleeding before it gets out of hand.

This makes it the perfect place for Trump to start...

Highly unlikely.

If you remember the war on drugs in the 1980's after the mall incident President Reagan had to send in the Feds against Pablo Escobar's guys.

President Trump would put together a similar and effective task force flashbackmiami.com...
