DeVos, who received her entire education from private Christian schools, also has close ties to the conservative Christian Reformed Church.

Well I think we can count on her not presenting policies that will hurt people.

It depends on which "people" you are talking about.

More often than not, these corporations get the public school dollar, build a crappy building that starts to fall apart within a few years, they produce decent results for about 5 years and then that too starts to fall apart. Charter schools are a scam.

The republicans don't care, ignorance serves them and dems seem quite intent on following in their footsteps. Seems the prime motivator to get into politics now, is to get rich or reinforce the wealth of someone else.

Been meaning to get back here. .... Yes, it's all about the dollar. The idea that money, the "free market", will solve all problems. This has been the mantra for the Koch ideology cult.

And so we ended up with, not a public servant as leader, but a CEO as leader. There will be no more "public good", rather a privatized nation, under corporate control. "Charter schools" at one time (30 years ago) were hoped by some that they would be public schools allowed to do things differently. But "charter school" became a business allowed to take tax dollars.

To ward off businesses taking over schools, my community years ago did establish public schools that were non-traditional. There are no private charter schools. (Two did come in, but they were so bad, parents complained, and the schools closed.) Parents are pleased, students thrive, and there is no profit skimmed off to go to a business. Education is education, business is business; they are not the same.

Besides wanting to do away with the Dept of Education and increase for-profit education with tax dollars, the third pursuit of the Republican Party now is to have tax dollars go to religious schools. Vouchers. DeVos would do all she can to make sure this agenda is done.

Yes, quite the scam. It was sad to see Democrats fall for this scam. These people are grifters.

Senate Democrats spoke all last night, into this morning, in an attempt to persuade more Republicans to switch sides and vote AGAINST Betsey DeVos later today.

It looks like the Democrats have failed again.
DeVos CONFIRMED: www.clickondetroit.com...

That party has to be really down in the dump after so many nationwide defeats since 2010.

That's horrible news.

Maybe what we need is a moderate or centrist party. There are plenty of republicans who don't like the tea party/extreme right/fundamentalist/fascist conglomeration that is now ruling America, and of course there are unaffiliated and moderate voters as well who probably don't want the far left or right.

The question is how many democrats would vote for a centrist over a Democratic candidate?

The 2016 primary was grossly unfair to anyone but Hillary and she speaks a language that most of us slightly left of you just simply can't tolerate anymore, it's too... Corporate Conservative. If we want to escape the clutches of Corporatocracy then we have to be a lot more willing to clean up our own back yards.

Halle Freakin Lujah ,

That is what we need MORE of on BOTH parties. People need to hold their own party accountable .

It makes no sense to complain about the other party when your own house needs some major house cleaning. Plus you have no control of the other party to dictate any changes.

When both republicans and democrats point the finger at each other all they do is let the lobbyist win.

The real Game is the [DNC+GOP+Lobbyist] VS the individuals ( democrats, republicans, third party)

you know while its not surprising it does amaze me that positive and more productive threads such as this about holding your own party accountable only receive a handful of stars and flags.

While create a counter productive thread where you put all the blame on the other party and watch the star and flag post go through the roof.

Its Saddening how intolerant people have become to the point that they are blinded by how both party have been screwing them for the last century at minimum.

FWIW I appreciate your effort despite often not agreeing on political ideology with . We need more people to step up and hold their own party accountable.

The crazy thing is that the most important things that we need todo now are things that both Republican and Democrats can agree with. However they are so busy chasing their tails and pointing the finger towards the other party that we are in an endless cycle.

Issues such as these

1. Congregational term limits

2. campaign financing reform.

3. Lobbying reform

4. doing away with super-pacs

5. Revolving door between gov't and private sector

6. Transparency

WTF can't the right and left come together and work on those things? Those are the most critical issues we face today and impacts all other issues. We should be working together versus constantly blaming each other.
