Apply critical unbiased thinking with independent research, fact checking (where/when possible) cross referencing with as many sources as you can find, and if it still stinks it is likely fake news.

Most people can't or won't do this, including many "journalists"... A fact the producers of fake news rely on.

Searching for truth has become a game, like searching for Pokemon. Finding honest truth in the media is like finding a "Mewtwo".

Most people have never even seen it.

Whichever source that confirms your bias, that's the non fake one.

It's all spin on the same source. Rather than listen to others thoughts on the matter, and spend 20 hours trying to develop a nuanced view of peoples opinions on a subject, why not just go directly to the source? Most MSM stories all come from the same source, either an AP story which you can read directly or a quote you can listen to, in context from the interview in question.

Because that would require critical thinking.

They have done an amazing job on our minds. Even when given the facts, most people still need to be told what they mean. You want pics? No problem, they will give you plenty, right along with an explanation of what you are looking at, frame by frame.

I think most people are capable of thought, it's just easier to not think.

I have something of a habit with a friend of mine (a political science + history dual major) where we go out for lunch every weekend, schedules permitting and basically just discuss current events. He's pretty smart so it's good conversation. This week though a couple other people in his major came along. To say I was disappointed with them was an understatement. They couldn't discuss anything, much less do so in a non partisan manner, and their sole method of communication was meme's pulled off of reddit.

These people had the same education as my friend, there was just a wide disparity in ability which I can only put down to not using their brains, they should have been exposed to the knowledge.

I nearly made a thread about it, because I was caught so off guard by how dense these people were in what should have been their field of expertise. But then I had another thought that perhaps I just expect too much of people.

Higher chance anywhere but MSNBC, CNN, New Yorker, Huffpost, Salon, WaPo, and New York Times.
