The internet gave us all that opportunity and, as a whole, we wasted it.

Most people do waste it and use it as a platform to stroke their egos & light entertainment.

But some of us recognize the incredible resource the www. is and use it to make an obscene amount of money with very little effort. There is information available but most of the users are simply to stupid or lazy to take advantage of it.

Agree ...its like the TV , don't like the channel then change it .Look and seek what it is that interests you rather then saying 57 channels and nothing on .

You may know I said it as a joke.

I'm fully aware that if there is something, there is going to be someone somewhere that is against it.

I have to agree, I see about half negativity on the net recently and it is not going to go away anytime soon. It allows negative people to pool together and get more confidence. I am beginning to think overall that it was a mistake.

It's ugliness at its worst!

I wish I saw your optimism in that it is only about half negativity.

It's certainly not going away either...I definitely agree with you on that.

The other half is Facebook, people taking selfies on trips, posting all sorts of funny or weird stuff, showing pictures of their kids. It is as bad as having to sit through home movies after someone got home from vacation years ago taken on a super 8.

Think of the Internet as a mirror...a reflection of ourselves...

Or, better yet:

"If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part yourself. What isn't part ourselves doesn't disturb us."

The internet is like visiting a large city. There are many different neighborhoods in each city. You can visit that serve your interests. Where you linger determines what you see and learn. What's your flavor, slums as a regular habitat or just visits? Buildings that contain the knowledge of the universe, or entertainment establishments? A quick dashing about according to you personal whims? Yes! That is that is what the internet is all about, it goes where you mouse takes you.

You sre absolutely right!!!! And, In a way, you describe the very reasons why I limit my time online.

Nevertheless, my experiences and observations while here, are still the same and why I don't stick around very long.

I've been a member on ats "officially" since 2010. I've visited and read since around 2004.

I'm not very active for the very reason I mentioned earlier.

the internet probably should be limited to just porn and video games since a lot of people don`t know how to handle the rest of what the internet offers.
if they want to argue politics let them go out in person and do it that should eliminate 90% of the political arguments in society.

Is a thunderstorm not a visceral beauty? An active volcano?

All forces of nature of this magnitude are both miraculous and deadly. The Internet is no different. A tool that can both set you free and enslave you in the same breath. The trick is to command the storm and follow the eye.

I have never participated in Facebook.

It never really made sense to me although, I could, to some degree, respect the original purpose...sort of. Lol

My take was this...if I still wanted you as a friend, you would still be my friend.

Otherwise, piss off.., I don't want to be your friend.

Quite simple the way I look at it.

I'll try. I chose the Tower of Babel analogy because the internet is, in one sense a common language among all. To make use of another biblical theme, Mass social media has made us guilty, for a second time of eating the fruit of the forbidden tree. We can now know the thoughts and hearts of everyone, that in a sense has made us "as gods" , having the knowledge of good and evil.

The question is will the price of that knowledge be a removal further from paradise, or our return to it, and is the power to determine that outcome truly ours now?

I completely appreciate your anology but, I don't necessarily agree with the point of what you are saying.

Nevertheless, it was very interesting how you tied nature and mankind vehicles of change into one.

Of course, in theory..

I didn't create the internet and I choose to not spread hate and division like others choose to do.

So, I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

When I read the vile nonsense, what should I make of it exactly?

Other than ignorance...
