5km WSW of Amatrice. It appears there were 2 foreshocks 4.7 and 4.5, followed by the 5.6 and a 4.7 aftershock. The depth is 10km and I think that is the actual depth, not just the default. It was felt in the city of Rome, 100 miles away. The metro ans some schools have been evacuated.

USGS

CNN

The metro system and some schools in Italy's capital, Rome, were being evacuated Wednesday following a series of powerful earthquakes that struck the heart of the country.

There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage but firefighters told CNN that heavy snow blocking roads has hampered their initial assessment.

I'm surprised you didn't blame Trump for that.

Seriously, thanks for the thread.

These could be aftershocks of the quake that struck back in August:

An earthquake, measuring 6.2 ± 0.016[3] on the moment magnitude scale, hit Central Italy on 24 August 2016 at 03:36:32 CEST (01:36 UTC).

Although, since the largest of the most recent series is a 5.6, that falls outside the range of aftershock sequence quakes and could be considered a main shock of it's own. It is also possible, that both the 6.2 and the recent 5.6 are foreshocks of a larger quake that is yet to happen. Lets all hope this is not the case.
