Does this mean Assange will be giving himself up?

That was the deal after all.

If Assange does give himself up to US extradition as he promised he would if Mannings sentence was commuted, he would arrive under a Trump administration.

A few years back Trump was calling for Assange to be executed..wonder if he still feels the same way.

Strange times.

He did say that if Chelsea Manning was to be released he would hand himself in. It's going to happen and I think Trump will pardon Assange.

Snowden can not be pardoned, because he has not stood trial and been convicted of anything. Ditto on commutation.

This is excellent news. A great choice by Obama. I haven't liked him in several years but this is great.

Well, Manning's info hurt the Bush administration. So, no sweat off Obama's back.

BS...Mannings leak hurt the US Military (not "Bush" or "Obama") and rightly so. They killed 12 people from an apache, including two children and two journalists..and then LIED about it in reports. Saying they were caught up in a different battle, location and crossfire with insurgents..none of which was true. The brass was covering it up...and for the sake of every good and honest US soldier, manning did the right thing IMO.

He's not wasting any political capital doing this, doesn't have to even talk to anybody about it.

I won't be surprised if he does a few more by the end of the week.

He can. The President can pardon in advance and prevent charges from being filed. I understand that he has to state what the pardon is for. Hillary, we know about; selling influence and disregard of security procedures plus obstruction for lying about it. Will he protect that bastion of legal knowledge, Loretta Lynch?

I won't hold my breath but what if we see a thing like "Obama pardons Snowden".Now that will be just beyond curious.

I see it as an attack on Assange's integrity, who's unlikely to turn himself in, and Trump can't pardon him because he's still the exec in charge of WikiLeaks who could publish leaks under Trump's Presidency.

Very interesting move.

I wonder if Manning being a transgender had anything to do with it?

Since he's a man of integrity who keeps his word.. Most likely, YES.

Presidential pardons don't require a conviction, they don't even require a charge actually.

The guts behind this pardon was very "Trump-like" of President Obama. He said "F-You" to his loser Democratic party, LOL.

Unless it was in writing I doubt he would.

Strange times indeed, let's hope if in fact Assange does get extradited to the US he doesn't end up a she. :/

So do the democrats love Wikileaks again?

It will be interesting to see how their pretzel logic spins this one.
