President Barack Obama has shortened the prison sentence of former Army private and whistleblower Chelsea Manning, She will be released on May 17, instead of remaining in military custody until 2045 as originally sentenced.
Sentenced under US Army Court Martial to 35 years' imprisonment in August 2013, Manning had leaked to WikiLeaks thousands of documents that came to be known as the Iraq War Logs and the Afghan War Diary.

Seems a little strange given Obama's stance on whistleblowers. However, I personally feel he did the right thing.

After all the terrible things he's done the past couple weeks, this is a big plus.

That's great news.

Chelsea would have died in that prison, and all for telling the truth.

Should be pardoned immediately, but this is a good step.

6 months is better than 30 years.

Certainly.

And along with this news hopefully she holds out.
Because she probably wouldn't have lasted those 6 months without this news.

Does this mean Assange will be giving himself up?

That was the deal after all.

Hot damn!

Free sex change.

Free room and board.

Sentence commuted!

Not surprising in the least.

Back to calling Trump a traitor, and commutation of a TRAITORS SENTENCE.

I think he said he would if she was pardoned.

Personally I don't see him doing that.

I wonder if he did this becasue Assange said he would be willing to be extradited if Manning was released? Does it kill the deal or aid it?

Yes.

Maybe by choice of maybe MK Ultra style. I'm sure they made it a point to make an example of him/her

The traitors were the people Chelsea Manning exposed.

You're on the wrong side of history, Neo.

Don't count on it... the two cases are apples and oranges.

I'm confident that Snowden will be in hiding from the US gov. & other goons for the rest of his natural life.

That last modicum of credibility Trump critics had.

Snowden is a pure blooded traitor.

He went beyond exposeing domestic spying to spilling the beans to Russia and the world the NSA country to country spying which they should be doing!

And least manning had the balls ( hahahahahahahahaha hahahahaha) to stay and face the music rather than ran like snowden, that makes Manning more of a......well man hahaha

Fantastic news! Seems surreal to be able to say that after all the bickering and hate lately, it seemed impossible something positive could occur. 6 months is still a long time, but I'm sure as Chelsea has managed this long, the knowledge that freedom is so close will strengthen resolve and will to live.

Chelsea's health and wellbeing was certainly a valid concern, here in the U.K. there have been a few well publicised trans women Committing suicide due to being kept in male pop prisons.

Heres to hopefully more good news
