That is a broiler on most stoves. Not a warming drawer. Unless warm means "crispy black"

Next time your feeling lazy and don't want to fire up your outside grill, the broiler will make great steak. Its just an upside down grill.

Actually, most of the stoves now are used for warming storage compartments and a few have broilers.

The older stoves had broilers because many people did not have ovens, and gas stoves are more likely to use that compartment as a broiler, if the bottom is left without a cover for the flame, then it is a broiler.
