Someone once brought up the conspiracy of cable companies being able to spy on us through the cable boxes we have installed in our homes. The spying of coarse would be for government purposes. I forgot the name of the person that brought up the idea, but he's a conspiracy theorist to say the least.

Any thoughts or opinions on such a possibility?? Our phone lines are tapped or can be tapped so why not another method for spying on us?

ROFLMAO! This is ridiculous

I work for Comcast and I know exactly what we can and can't monitor. There are no hidden cameras in your boxes. We can track (for rating purposes and network monitoring) what channels you are watching but that is all. The data is only used to diagnose problems on the cable network and for marketing purposes to know what channels our customers like and dislike so that we can provide better services to them by eliminating channels that do not have viewership to make way for new content.

But of course if you could monitor people and did and you worked for them you hardly gonna come hear and tell us you do are you.

Ryanp5555, that post would make a great sig.

Dude, this is the best conspiracy/supernatural site out there. Granted, there are plenty of whackos here (including me), but there are also a lot of brilliant people here as well.
Read some posts, they can be absurd or amazing. You either need to come up with a better conspiracy, or provide some sources to be taken "seriously" around here. So, could you provide some links?

Peace

I wish Neilson would "spy" on me.

Then I'd be representative of 10,000 households and responsible for network programming.

Not that Fox News watching Grandmother of four that kept Touched By An Angel on the air, but let Dark Angel get cancelled.

And Firefly... That show could have been a hit if they played the episodes in the order they were ment to be viewed. Anyways, I commonly mess with my cable boxes for reasons I'll keep disclosed, and I've never came across any cameras, yet.

It's not the cable boxes, it's the TVs, especially the Trinitron TV. SONY is an anagram for NOSY!

Do you think we are being watched through the TV? Is that possible? I really wouldn't want to be watched through the TV or cable box. Is there any privacy?

You can't watch anyone through the TV or cable box...
If you looked inside you would not find a camera and don't even entertain the idea that you can view people through the CRT.
If your still paranoid go buy yourself a nice plasma or LCD screen.

They do monitor what you watch, as one DJOsiris said.
Our Sky Digital box logs onto the SKy system at night through the phone line to report what we've watched and charge for any PPV stuff. I guess it's how they get their ratings figures for a start.

The problem I have is just like the police might take books you have read & use against you during a court case they might start looking at what you watched & do the same.

I have a friend that works for Comcast & they get everything for free, but they don't watch porn because they know everything you watch is loggged. I'm not exactly sure why they don't want their supervisor/coworkers to know they watch porn, whether their embarrased or maybe their afraid it might have an effect on their job etc.

I dont about in the States, but here in the UK, we have a thing called the Data Protection Act. I have worked in telecoms for a number of years, and have worked for NTL, and I can tell you that:

a)It is prohibited to look at another account without good reason and/or permission.
b)definately not allowed for you supervisor to see what you have bought.
c)if they did, and used it against you, then you could sue the a**e off them.

As for the cable boxes having cameras, we only used them to check on the shared student houses.....good viewing can be had there

My cable company might be watching me. They could if they wanted to. I have time warner. I have RoadRunner Internet, Digital Telephone service, and DVR TV Recording system all through time warner - and I love all of them. I don't really have anything to hide and if they were watching me I think they would get bored after a couple of days. But if they were watching me and I found out I would sue for 100 billion dollars - maybe more.

Sigh, I hope you don't talk like that when you are looking for "broads" to "do". If so, good luck
