i live on ft. drum new york. every time we go through the base gate, we show id's and sometimes we get a 100%, full check, dog, minesweep, ya know.

at orange. it is exactly the same, nothing new. i don't have much security placed trust into this system, i could understand big cities, but when a base is lax, then there's something wrong. ramp up security.

I'm always on full alert status.... I don't see isolated attacks on oil facilities crippling the economy though.... Halting the airlines for days, then causing a bailout, now THAT was crippling....but they had their shot at that....and that time has passed. They'll need to come up with something else to do....

i think all their plans are pretty funny. i could plan out some good terrorist attacks if i wanted to. when i was crazy i used to plan ways of blowing up tall buildings with remote control airplanes, but i'm past that now

I don't think they are necessarily aiming to "cripple the economy". Any hit to our pocketbook will definitely be viewed as icing on the cake for them and they'll gladly accept it, but I think they have and will aim for "shock and awe"; true terrorism. They want to scare the $h|t out of us. They want us to be in fear, to be as miserable as they are...because, let's face it, THAT's got to be miserable.

And I'm waiting for the Jerusalem shotgun type hits to start. Small random blow-me-ups in Lupy's and shopping malls. Get a dozen here, get a dozen there and you have instill a level of fear in every metropolitan area that truly would cripple the economy (well, the internet would just bust a move!)

Exactly...and how is simply blowing up an oil refinery fitting this bill? Nope...I don't buy it, this is a red herring.

As the airline thing isn't near as feasible anymore, they'll be looking for loss of life, and more infrastructure transit targets and softer targets. I'm betting on the railroads. After all, there were hints of this even right after 911.... I would expect to see a coordinated derailment/bombing, of several passenger trains, all on the same day....as the follow-up. Lets hope the powers that be are capable of thwarting it and reacting this time....

I'm still suprised we havent seen any suicide bombing yet in the States. If they truly wanted to scare us, then they would be doing this everywhere and anywhere they can.

It would barely make the news for a couple days....they're looking for something grand. To do so, requires high visibility, mass casualties, obviously coordinated attacks, and disruption of some kind of service. My bet is still on the passenger rail lines....

it is the world center for the drilling industry. almost every drilling rig in the world takes their instuctions from Houston.

Actually, in Houston, you don't have to take out the whole city... the bulk of the petrochemical industry is pretty centralized around the Ship Channel area... One good sized explosion near a tank farm, and you have another Texas City/Port Chicago sized explosion.

In addition, if a terrorist really knew what he was doing, it is entirely possible for a single person to sneak into one of the many refineries (assume they do know their stuff and coordinate to hit multiple refineries at once) and, if they gain access to the process controls, can wreak havoc without any explosives, and end up releasing some hellaciously toxic gases that would kill hundreds and require the evacuation of literally millions.

Hmmm... The ship channel (last time I was in Houston, I didnt see too many Coast Guard cutters in the area either)... imagine sailing that cargo ship loaded with 6800 tons of explosive that Greek SpecOps caught up the middle of the ship channel, snugging up next to a 5 million gallon storage tank loaded with high octane unleaded, and letting it rip?
