I have no such credentials as the illustrius career details posted by others on here but, like Fred, I'm a dedicated amatuer. Specialising in the triumphs and disasters of my own local aviation industry but with a general interest in aerospace globally I can only claim to have followed developments and studied the history of aviation closely for the past 33 years when I got my first 'Observers Book of Aircraft' and discovered 'Flight International' at the age of 7.

I am an aerospace engineer. But I have worked the majority of my career in a non-aerospace industry. I did, however, get to work for a time at NASA JSC MOD in the ISS MCS group (the ADCOs). While there my systems were the Russian GNC software system (SUDN), the Russian Propulsion and Propellant Re-supply systems (both for the FGB and the SM), and because of my work with SUDN, I also was involved in the use of quaternions in attitude determination. I assisted in writing system briefs on these systems while there.

My areas of experience are in gas dynamics, fluid dynamics, high-speed jet flow, tribology, high yield point Bingham plastic rheology, and fluid systems design and mechanical design. I have also had the pleasure of working with top experts in the shaped charge design area. I have one patent, and three published technical papers.

I would not call myself an expert in any area. All in all, I'm a mile wide and a foot deep - and pretty much okay with that because I've had a hell of a ride getting here.

P.S. I do have hours toward my pilot's license, and have solo'd once. Then I figured, I'm about bubble-headed enough I probably ought to stay on the ground until I get my kids out of the house. Then I can take all the risks I so choose. I want to get both my fixed-wing and a chopper license.

OK, I don't see why not......

I'm strictly a dedicated amatuer myself but I have several family 'connections'.....

.....in terms of very senior designing of civillian and military aircraft (Mr X worked both sides of the atlantic; very recently retired), making them (a Mr Y, medium level fitting), operating them (Mr Z at a fairly small airline) and military flying (Mr A, RAF only but went to the US a couple of times, now retired).

I'm an airline pilot so I can speak with some authority to commercial aviation, but I don't keep up on cutting edge military aircraft projects.

I could say the same, i'm just an amateur, always had an interest in aircraft which was passed on to me from my brother.

After seeing shows on the discovery channel I learned alot, the internet taught me ever more.

And while developing a modification for a computer game, I had to do lots of research in certain systems...I learned ALOT about all sorts of weapon systems.

My favorite sources are:

www.globalsecurity.org
www.fas.org/man
www.airforce-technology.com

The above sources are often used by me for both aircraft project and other projects like gound systems....

www.world.guns.ru for firearm development.
www.army-technology.com for just that....army tech...

Otherwise I google
or Yahoo which I am use more often since i'm used to Yahoo...

I want to thank everyone who posted here. Off_the_Street gave me a lot of info about himself, unfortunately I didn't understand a thing Intelgurl said. but it sounds technical. I'm really impressed with Valhall, having worked for NASA and all - that's very cool.

I'm not an aerospace expert, but I do like to build model airplanes.

I am moving away from big RC planes right now and building a bunch of "old Timers" i.e. rubber powered free flight planes.

Cheaper and just as fun.

When I finish my curent project, i will post a pic of it on the "identify this airplane" thread. Even better I will take the picture before I cover it.

shadowman says:

"I know you didnt call upon my name but im into aircrafts but not into much aircraft projects unless it fits my intrest of taste. Im more of the tracking and listening type i have no idea what you would call that.. i track planes from my local airport which is the westchester county airport by AirPortMonitor which is pretty accurate."

Brother Man, you need to check out Flight Explorer (www.flightexplorer.com...); it's the bomb.

doubt i am anywhere near an "expert"

I gain all my aviation expertise from Osmosis. I have piloted a cessna craft, and probly could pilot it myself if needed. I had a roomate that was former USAF dealing with munitions and avionics for the AV-8B (he has been inside the "no lone man zone") My dad is a veitnam vet who was aflight engineer for CH-47Cs.. And i have a Cousin who works at the Boeing plant (commercial Jetlines) along with her husband who is a former Army ranger. specializing in small arms

I have also attended many major airshows, stood withen 10 feet of a parked F-117 and stuided a lot of WWII air combat. Talked to Chuck yeager and Burt Rutan (at a seminar) and dream of someday going into space

otherwise it has been mostly info i have learned from the Discovery channels

hmm, but the Air Force does nothing with AV-8Bs....

I'm all ametuer.

But I do know a lot of people in the field who do know what they are talking about, so I guess I can maybe get some expert opinions that some can't.

I am a client/operations field support specialist for Raytheon sensing, processing, and dissemination technologies - dealing primarily with software support of F2T2EA cycle methodologies for UCAV development.

Natalie~

maybe thats because intel gurl works on 'black projects' wrt UCAVs..

so besides these guys no real 'aerospace engineers' as such?
Im sure the seti team at ATS will have some of those guys..
Im an electronics/telecomm engg. (just graduated) so any 'circuitry based' avionics type questions I can attempt to answer..

Long live XilinX

Noones asked, but heres me

Nothing really interesting, Im a hardened amateur-professional having lived for all my life around military airbases. I hold a (non current) 737 license with around 200 hours in the air. Im just really interested in all of this stuff, having a father who works for the RAF.

My afiliations are to Airbus (nah, just kidding. Im non affiliated - I quite like the 737 and the 7E7/787). My current job is computer programmer/web developer (if anyone wants anything done, just ask!).

Nice fishing expedition, nanobyte. You brought me out of retirement. (for one post anyways)
But....I have come to bury Ceasar, not to praise him == Mark Antony
Like Mark, I launch into what I said I will not do.

Your post has pulled in many of those whom I would classify as quality posters. At least,
those who actually put work, thought, and professional pride into their posts. And these
are the folks that I enjoy - Good Reads All. Personal aspects confirm what their
posts have already shown. Unfortunately for the community, and in my opinion, the
growth here is only in numbers. Its getting harder to pan for the gold. But at least
a few new Gems show up from time to time. I bounced over last week and discovered
one that is now almost ten thousand views and growing fast. And in here, the post initiator
denys his expertise. (intentional pun) If JANES ever does an All-The-Worlds-Aircraft
20th Century Edition, I hope waynos is on their staff.

Keep an eye on Kyle == ...I guess it's a love/hate relationship...
That is a professional insite. (and a compliment, not an insult)

Now to bury Ceasar, and the point of this post.
(again, this is an acknowledgement of professional modesty and open-ness, not an insult)

Have any of you seen the identity theft commercial, particularly Off The Street, Valhall, and intelgurl ?
You know, the one where the guy is pawing thru the dumpster and picking up data. Then,
the user of the dumpster drives into the driveway and exits his car, as I pocket the
ID data. I casually say ....Hey, Duncan !.... as I wave and walk off, leaving a puzzled look
on Duncan's face.

lol....haha, the last two days have been much more hate than love

Try single-handedly re-classing(re-installing and ops-checking all classified aircraft parts after a jet returns from depot-level structural maintenence in Korea) an entire F-15C in one shift, then returning the next day to fix a very obscure Yaw CAS malfunction in an F-15D for 12 hours, and it's getting COLD outside!!! rrrrr right now I hate F-15s, dammit
, What ever happened to those great "code 1 days?"
