Who said anything about "taking Assange at his word"? I don't. It just so happens that my thinking on the topic agrees with his narrative. Not so much I believe him, but that I happen to be headed in the same direction...

What does Russia have to gain by this? Conversely, what does Russia stand to lose if busted? Does the gain outweigh the possible cost?
