Who cares if they are Lesbians, it's just a show! They are trying to open the minds of children to the fact that there are different lifestyles other than their own. If someone has a problem with this, then they need to quickly get over it and stop living in a bubble!

I have been watching this show with my neice who is living with me for a while...
I have not seen or heard ANY refrence to lesbians on this show!!!??
do people have nothing better to do and make crap up like this!!??
this is sad and sickening...first they are going after spongebob and now a PBS show!!!

I'm sure the "Make room for Daddy" star (Marlo Thomas' dad) would be happy to see his people, the Lesbians featured on the show.

After all its nice to travel and see different lifestyles and culture.

...Oh wait...I mean... Lebanese....Lebanese people.

I kill myself sometimes.

as long as they keep gay male relationships off the cartoons and puppet shows everything will be fine...nobody wants their children seeing that going on...likewise nobody cares if their children see long as they are hot lesbians

quote "likewise nobody cares if their children see long as they are hot lesbians "

thats hilarious
*hides lesbian porn *

edit : i just wanted to add something here
you guys make a great point about "they dont show any sex"
so ok; its acceptable
but if it did show hot lesbian sex; than it would be serverly inappropriot for children
but for adults , its perfectly fine
*goes back to lesbian porn collection*

I am a Mother and I understand not wanting to expose children to sex. One day I picked my son up from school and I had to quickly turn off the radio because there was an explicite song being played. It was all about sex. There was no warning before the song was played and it aired at a little after 3:00 PM right when children all over the nation are getting out of school. The artist performing the song is heterosexual. The radio station playing it is owned by a heterosexual.

You can always turn off the radio or tv if you don't like what is on it. There are other forms of media that can't be "turned off" though.

As we drove down the road, we passed 3 billboards with half dressed women on them that were designed to appeal to heterosexuals.

Later at the grocery store I noticed a magazine that caters to the heterosexual population. It is normally displayed at the eye level of an 8 year old child. It regularly features half dressed women on the cover and often features articles of the type, "How to Keep Your Man Happy in Bed," or "Sexy Moves to Drive Men Wild!" These headlines are printed right on the front cover in full view of all the children.

I have yet to hear any heterosexual group say, "Hey get those magazines out of my child's reach! I don't want my child exposed to sexual issues until they are ready!"
Likewise with the billboard issue.

I think the important point here is that when people talk about the Postcards from Buster show and they say "lesbian" they automatically think "sex."
Why is this?

Why is it that when some people hear "gay" they think "sex?" It seems to me that these folks just have sex on the brain and it's no wonder what with all the heterosexual songs, billboards, and magazines they face daily.

I don't think there are many children who see two women together making syrup and automatically think about sex. If they do, they didn't learn it from Buster.

I am a parent.
I am a wife.
I am the manager of a company.
I am a spiritual person.
I am on the PTA Board.
I am active in my community.

I am a lesbian as well, but I do not define myself by who I have a relationship with.

My "agenda" is to pay my bills on time, keep my car running, keep my family healthy, clothed, fed, etc.

I am in a committed 14 year (so far) relationship with my wife.
We are just people, not sex machines. Sex is not the end-all, be-all of our relationship. Anyone who has ever been in a meaningful relationship knows that it involves much more than sex. A relationship between two women requires all the sincerity, honesty, trust, team work, etc that a relationship between a man and a woman requires.

I really don't care if the Buster show makes it to the air or not. I just want people to realize that "lesbian" and "sex" are not the same word. They don't mean the same thing. Likewise I think that comparing us to Satanist, Mobsters, child abusers, etc is a little harsh. I can see where they are all controversial, but one issue is about families - the others are largely about criminal behavior.

If I see a man and a women making syrup together would I automatically think about sex? Would I think they were trying to force their ideas on me? Would I think that they are forcing my child to confront controversy?

Wellwhatnow...thank you so much for sharing your views. That was awesome and you put the whole issue (non issue) into perspective. You nailed it on the head. Excellent post!

OMG!! are you trying to pick a fight or something? free speech!!!! SPEECH, why are people like you always trying to be so negitive about things like this! your kids are going to learn about gays and lesbians anyway, your sons probally already learned about them, beleive me, if you have the internet, and a son, you will not be in control of what your child finds out soon.

anyways, back to the subject, it's free speech, not free visual advertisement!

sereusly though, your childern are going to get ahold of porn eventoally, right? just, theach them that they need to asept the gays and lesbians for who they are, and respect their differances, and the earlyer, the better, i think we could all have done beteer had we learned tolerance as childern, but we don't, and we don't even try to teach to our childern, we try and let them learn on their own, but, why do you think there are so many racists, and so many tight collar people running around? because the human spieces lacks tolerance as a group, it's not an idevisual, oh, well i'm tolorate, that should be enough, well, it's not, you gotta tech these things to your kids, becuase if you don't, and don't start right at an age when they are ready to understand things, they're gonna get confused, and think one way or the other, ether that homosexuality is wrong, or that it's good, and that they want to be one.
and that's not how it should go, you should supply them with all the knowlage that you can, but make it neutral, then, they can deside on their own how they feel.
and who cares about how wrong anything is in the bible, it shouldn't matter, they are your fellow humans, respect them, invoke the basic hman rules with them, do unto others, as you would have done onto you
would you want to be mocked, madefun of, even hated? NO, so don't hate others! i don't care hoe annoying, agist your relegion, rivel gang, what ever, it all has to stop sometime!

Where's the love anymore?

Well, werent the teletubbies a gay thing, or the purple one with the triangle on his head at least? I agree, i dont think theres anything wrong with showing this. I know of alot of narrow minded people that would, however. But i don't think we should let the beleifs of these people affect the decision of whether or not this should be aired. But what would happen if the majority of the nation decided things like this should never be aired? Heck, what if the majority of our people decided to massacre all the chinamen. Since it is the majority of the populous, would letting it be carried out be the "American" thing to do? Should we all just go along with the majority and let all the minorities be run over? I don't think so.

I just don't see why this is an issue.

Kids see straight couples on tv all the time, did you have to explain sex to your kids when they saw the straight couple?

So now a kid sees a two women sharing a home on tv, and you still don't have to talk about sex. If a child did have a question about this type of family, all you have to say is, "some people have two moms."

If you want to pass your religion or personal beliefs on to your child and tell them that the women are wrong, so be it. The fact is that more and more gay couples have children. Next year my son (or someone like him) may be in your child's class at school. Maybe we'll live next door. Maybe your child and mine will be on the same soccer (baseball, football, volley ball) team. Sooner or later your child will encounter the issue . . .

. . . and it still doesn't have to be about sex.

It is so simple to talk to your kids about lesbians,

"Some people have two moms."

i can see both sides and their justification, however i do have a son thats eight, tell me how do i explain to him about two gay guys? for instance, well what is gay and what do you have to do to be considered gay? i dont know about you but im having a hard enough time explaining birds and bees to him. what do i say ,that they stick each others tallwhacker in the other .? life is so tough on them as it is why do I have to explain this to him so he can grow up sooo politcally correct and just love all gay people.

please....i forfeited my childhood ,. ill be damned if i let that happen to me he doesnt need to know this bull# yet. just like he doesnt need to know about nuclear weapons, hitler, biological weapons, police that arent good,

i could care less what other people do, its not your right to inform my child of your sexual preference. hes a good child he sees people for what thjey are and how they behave ,that alone is enough to give his friendship towards another human.

if you want to teach him about your livestyle then back it up and show up in person to tell him face to face.

for people who try to promote acceptance and peace within the wourld they aren't doing very well. this kind of exposure is fantastic for kids! it allows them to be more open minded and accepting of all kinds of people.

I personally wouldn't say that to anyone - child or adult. I see sex as an act that is about love and spirituality. Just my opinion, I personally would have too much respect for my son to ever refer to sexual organs as a "tallywhacker."

As for talking to kids about gay couples, again it's so simple.

"Some people have two dads."

When I talked to my child about sex, I made sure to equate sex with love. I didn't make it into a clinical biological function. I portrayed it as a way that adults express love - with a deeply spiritual and physical act. I told him that men can love one another, women can love one another, or a man and a woman can love one another. There was no need to be graphic or to debase the act.

He understood without me telling him what happens in our bedroom. That's not his business, that's not anyone's business.

He knows that people love one another through a physical means that should never be taken for granted or abused.

But again I ask, what is there about making syrup that would cause you to talk to your kids about sex?

Is syrup making some sort of "code" that straight folks use for sex?

How are you supposed to explain a lesbian or homosexual relationship to a child without delving into cunnilingus or sodomy? I'm sorry guys, I can't just condone sexuality of any sort being portrayed in material directly marketed to children. Like I said before, what happens in an adult's bedroom is not the kind of crap I want proliferated nor being publicly funded. Yes, they will learn about the birds and bees, but that is my job as a parent, not some advertising agency or fruity television producer. If these folks want to engage in what i personally consider and will teach my children is deviant sexuality, that is well and good, but don't come trying to cram it down my kids' throats. Free speech is one thing, protraying overt sexuality to a minor is illegal, immoral, and before you try to hand me the free speech line, speak all you like, but don't get upset when the funding for your program gets pulled or some angry parent crams his fist through the back of your gay heralding head either. Do you guys really want the tv teaching what is socially acceptable to them, or don't you think that might fall under the title and roles of parenting? They can take all those demographics and marketing numbers and stick them up their collective arses because I don't intend to raise homosexuals, and I don't want my tv telling them it's ok, when I think it is an atrocity. Yes I believe in free speech, and I believe in protecting the rights of minorites, but I also believe in the sanctity of children and the proper socializations of the parental influence. What if NAMBLA took over the Smurfs, would you still let your kids watch it? What if Charles Manson started a kids show about making drugs in the basement and killing your parents? Yeah that sounds drastic, but damn, where do we draw the line here? Society develops inherent moral standards, while they vary from culture to culture and community to community, there is a reason for these standards. To which, we wonder why we have so many pedophiles and child molesters, as we drive to the store to buy mini skirts and make up for our eight year olds. Get real people, sex and children are not compatible, nor is a market any decent business would persue. Gay, straight, or sadomasochistic, whatever floats your boat, it's YOUR BOAT. Not mine, not OURS, and sure as hell not our kids.

i could have used the word penis however i was trying to not get in trouble for my language. i definitely would not use that word if i had to explain to him about gays
i didnt want to offend any virgins.

however your using somantics (im bad speller) in your argument. why did you marry your wife or whatever.? one of the reasons i married mine was that we shared great bedtime. im being as honest as i can be..... if we did not like each other in bed i would not have married her.maybe im the freak but our marriage is still awesome after thirteen every area

if we did not sleep together we would not be married therefore we would be friends ,aquaintences, enemys, anything but hetereosexual lovers.

no doubt you can love anyone but its like i love my best friend but i dont love my best friend which would change my status if you will. besides its still about my child being bombarded by everyone who thinks that its their god givin right (nopun intended) to shoot off about their injustices.

lifes not fair and it will never be

Uh, people, it isn't like Buster goes there and the couple has sex on tv. He goes there and makes syrup or something. There is no sex involved, so there would be no reason to explain sodomy or cunninglinus(speeled wrong, shut up, I usually just eat out or go down on, no fancy words like that)
