Why is twitter not on any fake news list? They are the sole purpose of so much of the fake news around the world.

Someone sends a tweet and a news outlet runs with it immediately just to get the scoop .

Think about it all the celebrity death hoaxes were started on twitter. so many hoaxes have started with just a stupid random tweet.

Like cnn ran porn in Boston.

So why not crack down on the true source for almost all hoaxes?

Freedom of speech.

Stupid solution. If you get rid of Twitter or even just censor it too much, another social media outlet that allows more extreme behavior will just crop up to replace it. The niche exists at this point. We need to figure out a way to work WITH it instead of against it.

Because unlike CNN, twitter gets to the bottom of the hoaxes thru two way discourse.

How long do hoaxes stand on CNN? They keep repeating their fake 'narratives', hoping people will buy it. There is no counterpoint to their BS within CNN.

Freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech ends when people start creating false stories and potraying it as the real thing and causing mass confusion and hysteria.

You never heard of the national radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds". That almost caused a nation wide panic in 1938

Don't lie. Twitter doesn't get to the bottom of any hoaxes. Twitter is just a huge bubble of bias for anyone using it, regardless of political swing.

Someone tweeted that the queen had died yesterday and the web went mad for a minute. It's actually scary all this fake news and I see an Orwell esc type situation where twitter/disgracebook say something and we run to the hills. MSM is bad enough without running story's from these groups of fake news handlers.

of course freedom of speech is important but freedom to lie and manipulate people is surly more so important we have a duty to protect people not praise these company's and their twisted agendas

Peace

It's funny you bring that event up when that event was a textbook example of media sensationalism overreporting a non-event.

I've not seen mass confusion and hysteria as the result of fake news or tweets. Asking to shut down a source of info instead of fact checking them is intellectually lazy.

Did we shut down all radio stations in response to that?

Im all about freedom of speech but to have any media outlet create fake stories or half-truth stories for the sake of getting the most ratings and views it becomes a problem. Not to mention the social media sites that LOVE to circulate that kind of drama without fact checking anything first.

No BUT there ought to be some form of punishment or negative action to the media outlets who dish out mishandled stories. CNN is a perfect example of how they could very well lose all accredibility for being a legit news outlet.

I'll take counter points from Joe Public over main stream media gibberish anyday.

But thanks for revealing your censorship bias.

That would include Facebook and Instagram. The 3 together 'cause everyone thinks they are reporters.

Do you have any idea how many times an issue changes from person to person to person, and site to site?

Even here look how many times the same topics... many false... get replicated because the O. P. s didn't check if it was already posted... or fake?

Fake News is not real and reality isn't real---In other words its another irrelevant thought form/MEME to chase other thought forms into nothingness

If you pay attention I'd say 90% of discourse on Facebook news stories and on twitter about news and politics isn't from real persons accounts. Both are cesspools of fake and fraud and will eventually be replaced like all tech. But until then just let it be as Twitter is more realiable than msm propaganda as on twitter the truth at least exists. And who are you to take that away from me Don Lemon?
