The thing about computer hacking is that it’s such a general, far-reaching term that it’s almost impossible to explain to someone who isn’t already familiar with it. So, news networks who need b-roll footage to show while they’re talking about hacking usually just show keyboards or random strings of letters and numbers, while the audience stares blindly at the screen, assuming that whatever they’re looking at is somehow related to the topic. Or, if you’re CNN, you steal footage from one of the most popular video games of the year and hope that nobody watching will recognize it.

In a recent story about President Obama proposing sanctions against Russia for its roll in cyberattacks targeting the United States, CNN grabbed a screenshot of the hacking mini-game from the extremely popular RPG Fallout 4. First spotted by Reddit, the screenshot shows the menacing neon green letters that gamers will instantly recognize as being from the game.

*Facepalm* I gotta admit we are officially in the age of Idiocracy. CNN used a freakin' video game as evidence of supposed Russian hacking.

HAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!x D

Lemme guess, they thought this would look good because of the post apocalyptic and 50/60's nuclear theme from fallout 4 and how that would "Subliminally" (fail) work well here??!

Duh See-Aye-Aye hard at work here bringing you insider info....for real this time yo...!

This reeks of so much desperation i am not sure if i should really laugh about it.

Can we please officially censor CNN as the fake news it is? I wouldn't believe anything they say.

But, but, but ........ don't all hackers use them Cathode Ray Tube's displaying black screens with green text, i mean it was OK for Matthew Broderick back in "War Games" times,

They wouldn't think of switching to Touch Screen LCD or anything, would they?

If you are in the know like the CIA then yould be aware thar real hackers feel that LCD's and touch screens are for plebs, please educate yourself on the matter on WWW.CIA.gov.

You can trust me on that because Here is a another insider screenshot from one of the hackers desktops using a secret os. Do not ask me how obtained this.

I don't think a screenshot of a video game is considered footage. Unless you are implying we all live inside a video game.

CNN is about as real as the Fallout storyline.

Pipboy can be used as a hack tool so I guess it makes sense.

It's ridiculous that's what it is but that's why it fit's with the whole ordeal so im alright with it.

The entire video consists of footage to tell a story and push a narrative. The only time any reporting was going on, a term I'm using loosely here, is on Mr. McCain. One of the few dinosaurs still lurking in the halls of government pushing the neoconservative brand of democracy.

The fact all this stock footage was used means there really wasn't anything to see so they created an image in everyone's head to provide a desired response, to further the storyline. Everyone likes stories, it's just here we have real consequences.

That's not what this thread is about though....

It's about how silly old CNN used footage from fallout 4 lolz....

I don't even know what or why you're ranting about? Are you now agreeing with me that it is stock footage, and just can't admit that? Instead just having a rant for the hell of it?

No I was initially arguing about semantics, "footage" versus a"screenshot". I thought you had already gotten that.

I wonder if Bethesda authorized this?

If not CNN might owe them a few bucks!

Edit to add: Oh, they know about it lol www.gamerevolution.com...
