WAR: Australian Guantanamo Bay Detainee Released

The Australian Guantanamo Bay detainee Mamdouh Habib has arrvied back in Australia being detained for three years. Habib's release was announced nearly three weeks ago. His release was not confirmed by neither the Australian Government or the US until Mr. Habib had landed on Australian soil. Mr Habib arrived back at Sydney at 4:00pm AEST. Despite his release, Mr. Habib will be monitored round the clock by both police and ASIO.



It's about time they released him. The US didn't have any solid evidence against him. And seeing the only evidence they had was a "confession" you could easily tell it was not the most solid evidence.
There are a number of things that went wrong with this case, bad evidence, torture, unlawful detainment etc. but I believe the worst thing about it is that the Australian Government did nothing at all to secure the release of Habib. They just sat around and said that "Australia does not have the laws to prosecute Mr. Habib so we're letting US do it." I think it's a kick in the face for him not to receive even an apology from the Australian Government, but you cannot expect much after watching the Aust. Government sitting back doing absolutely nothing for Mr. Habib, even while the UK, being the United States biggest ally, successfully and continually requesting the release of UK nationals from Guantanamo Bay.
