ake North Carolina for example, according to these noted political scientists that have traveled and consulted the world regarding elections and democracy, if North Carolina existed as a nation-state, it would be no better than Iran or Sierra Leone. Think about that for one second.

You've obviously never been, or you wouldnt be ignorant enough to believe that OPINION piece.

It's a beautiful state.

California carries the financial dead weight that is NC. Don't ever forget that.

If you forgot how backwards NC is, have you forgot that the NBA is not having their All Star game in that state because of its repressive laws? Think about this for one second, the NBA has teams in many red states such has OK and TX. They have never threatened to pull their All Star game out of those states, but they did to NC. Why? Because NC has legislators that are hell bent on bringing that state and our country back to the 1500's.

I'm also wondering how California is carrying the "financial dead weight" of NC when Ca is $443 Billion in debt. I have family in Ca that works for the state... sometimes they are paid in IOU's near the end of the year. California's defaults are about the same size as Greece. So how are they carrying anything but failed liberal policies again?

And that brings our country back to the 1500's... you mean when it was occupied by Native Americans and there were no white people here?

Let's talk about the NBA though... whhaaaaa?

I'm going to talk to you tomorrow when you're sober.

Has there ever, in recorded history, been a country who allowed illegal aliens to vote in their elections? Are there currently countries where I can go and walk in and vote in their elections?

In my view, it isn't just North Carolina that has a government acting like a third world dictator---it is the entire Federal government who is playing that role by encouraging lawlessness. Paying no attention to laws duly passed by our elected representatives.

If there are bad laws they need to be removed, not ignored for a time, only to be enforced for special circumstances. If we want to see people acting like third world dictators and their minions we have no further to look than Obama and Clinton and their many illegal activities. We have to look no further than the ghettos of Chicago, where war lords rule and murder is a daily occurrence.

This fellow needs to peek out of the ivory tower from time to time.

I agree. I've visited this site for sh its/giggles over the last 10 years. From what I have seen, this site has become a cesspool of right wing conspiracy theorists that are crazy ignorant in last couple of years.

For people like me and you, we can easily see the result of having FOX News and their right wing AM radio talk show hosts infiltrate the ignorant and angry minds of these people over the last 20 years. The sad part is that they are so filled with BS that they have no idea what to believe anymore while their states are turning into straight sh it holes filled with welfare recipients, guns, and leadership that only care about themselves. That's a powder keg for disaster, but they don't see it coming.

Ive been on this site for almost a couple of decades and in the last couple of years the membership has changed dramatically. No critical thinking, no research, blind mindless mob belief in tabloid BS.

I'm sure this thread will degenerate very shortly.......

Cali seems to fall into the "too big to fail" category and I'm sure they know it. To think they can carry any state is beyond laughable.
To run a yearly budget deficit is the way democrats do business. Look no further that these past eight years, talk about being on your way to 3rd world level.

this is what you get when you have Rev Barber crying about voter ID laws targeting the black voters........what?

No, he really does think that way, and his NAACP group is a powerful lobby. Sad to have such poor leadership with that much power.

Shame on those who do this.........unless they're a Progressive, right? Obamacare was shoved down our throat with no debate or review. "We have to pass it to see what's in it" sound familiar?
How can the Left not drown in their hypocrisy?

NC is truly screwed up, but it has nothing to do with Trump or the electoral college. The local government is one of the worst in the world. Fake democracy, no representation it is the worst of the worst.

People would be more inclined to read and discuss it if you didn't tag other things to your OP such as Trump. By throwing in the electoral college and Trump you successfully triggered people to the point where they didn't even read the article to identify the issue. You scrapped your own thread.

I have relatives in NC. I'll say this, it's a beautiful state, but the general population there is straight up ignorant and racist. There's a reason why many graduates from UNC and Duke leave the state.

do you really not know why we go by the electoral college?

north Carolina is actually a really nice place, come visit

just use the right bathroom of we'll beat you up and throw you in jail

FOREVER

They leave because UNC and Duke are two of the best schools in the nation so yes people leave NC for work. Saying the general population is ignorant and racist is a generalization.

My family is from this area and are old tobacco farmers and are lifelong Democrats sooooo stop judging people. I've met tons of really horrible people in the North

I stopped reading your post right here

With all of the gerrymandering by the GOP in all states that gave Trump the presidency despite losing the popular vote by almost 3 MILLION votes,

When are you going to stop being so whiney and move on?
Now on to the article….
Point 1:

First, legislative power does not depend on the votes of the people. One party wins just half the votes but 100 percent of the power.

Um, that is how an election works….if you lose, you are the loser. Doesn’t matter what your % of votes are.

Point 2:

Second, democracies do not limit their citizens’ rights on the basis of their born identities.

Would you like to tell me what rights gay and transgender have in Iran or Sierra Leone? Here I will help

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Iran face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Both male and female same-sex sexual activity are illegal.

LGBT rights in Iran

The Sierra Leone Human Rights Commission does not work on LGBT rights because, according to its communications director in 2011, "the law of Sierra Leone does not give the Commission mandate to advocate and support LGBT human rights".

LGBT rights in Sierra Leone
Point 3:

Third, government in North Carolina has become arbitrary and detached from popular will.

The current governor doing this was wrong. There was a similar bill passed (in 2013 I think) that a judge overturned…as I am sure this one will be also.

As a lifelong resident of NC, I can say that there are a few things that kinda stink about living here, but I'd still rather be here than anywhere else. Here's a quick list of pros and cons:

Pros

- Great seafood

- Beautiful landscape from the mountains to the coast

-Delicious BBQ

-Most people are nice and polite

-Hearing gunshots in most areas of the state is actually no cause for alarm

-We're not California

Cons

-HB2 was a stupid law with no real purpose but to antagonize the Transgender population. All 0.01% of them are highly angry and the LGBT community and their supporters are angry for them.

-Bible thumpers. Bible thumpers everywhere.

-Tax on labor (supposedly they're eventually going to remove the income tax but I doubt that will ever happen)

-Duke Energy's illegal dumping

-A severe lack of things such as computer stores and Chick-fil-As, as far as I can tell.

See, this is what happens when you read too much into right wing fake news.

Not that the left needs their vote, but illegal aliens do not vote in CA elections. If that happened, the right wingers in CA would go ape sh it over that. This is the same BS that right wingers perpetuate similar to that of Obama will take your guns when he took office.

Yes, NC does have very good universities, but many of the graduates are leaving the state because of the repressive govt. and people in the state. I know two Duke grads that loved their time at the school, but when asked whether they would move back, the answer was a resounding "Hell, No." When asked why, they said that there are too many racists living in the state.

Actually, this is an international forum so you can expect international response. If you're uncomfortable with that, it shouldn't be too tough to find an echo chamber that will make you feel better. Oh, and you might want to learn some spelling and punctuation while you're at it. Don't bother with the political science, though.

Can you prove illegals were not voting in this election? With no voter ID laws there is nothing to stop it. We have dead voters and voters voting more than once. I believe that this has been shown to be a problem.
