DeNiro Receives AFI's Life Achievement Award

HOLLYWOOD At a celebratory dinner on the weekend where he received the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award, Robert DeNiro was hailed as the Marlon Brando of his generation.

The event, which took place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, was attended by DeNiro collaborators Barry Primus, Harvey Keitel, Robin Williams and James Woods, all of whom told their own stories about the actor.

DeNiro, who is the 13th recipient of the award, which recognizes "talent (that) in a fundamental way advanced the film art," was also lauded for his contributions to New York in the wake of September. 11.

DeNiro is by far my favorite actor. I watched the award show tonight on USA and never realized how many movies he was in. Over 100!
Some of my favorites are:

The Godfather Trilogy
Bronx Tale
Raging Bull
The Deer Hunter
Cape Fear
The Fan
Analyze This & Analyze That
Taxi Driver
NewYork, NewYork

A well-deserved award. De Niro is one of those actors whose acting i so stylised that I think one loves or hates him -I love him. Similar would be Dustin Hoffman (in fact I detest his acting; but one man's meat...)
But never forget the old guys: put De Niro up against Robert Mitchum in the original Cape Fear and the older Bob would win.
