Crazy weather in Europe and North Africa today. Blizzards. Snow.

BBC: Blizzards paralyse Algerian city

27 January, 2005

The worst snowfalls in more than 50 years have paralysed Algeria's capital, Algiers, and more than a third of the country, the authorities say. The bad weather is reported to have caused at least 10 deaths and hundreds of motorists have had to be rescued from their stranded vehicles. Towns and villages have been cut off

Weather forecasters say the conditions will persist for several days. Neighbouring Tunisia has also been affected.

Algerians have been warned not to go outside unless necessary

Keep in mind tho that algeria has a large mountainous region, so snow is not so crazy. As it says, worst in 50 years.

A good part of Switzerland is located in the Alps, the famous mountain region of Europe -- so more often than you'd think.

So much for global warming, eh? Maybe the doomsayers in the 1970's talking about the next Mini Ice Age were correct after all -- and the global warming was actually helping us by slowing down the oncoming cold?
