Big stuff being moved through California late last night.

A man has filmed a giant mystery object being transported through his town with a police escort.

The YouTube user, called somiskid, captured the convoy with a lorry carrying a huge mysterious object as it rolled through Saticoy in Caifornia.

The Giant mystery object had a police escort, there is little info. And we may never know what the load was.

The YouTube user, called somiskid, captured the convoy with a lorry carrying a huge mysterious object as it rolled through Saticoy in Caifornia.

It was escorted by a police car as well as three lorries and a service vehicle late at night on Tuesday.

The middle lorry appears to be carrying a huge metal box as traffic builds up behind the slow moving vehicles.

Somiskid captioned the video "What is this thing round 2!!??' after spotting and filming a similar object five months previously."

Looks like a transformer for a power station

Looks like transformers to me.

There are several different shapes they come in, but that's what I think the ones are in the video you linked.

Just because it's being escorted by police doesn't make it some government secret. They're there because it's such a long and awkward load, sometimes traffic must be redirected or roads cut off, or just plain get the cars out of it's way.

I live in an area where large boats are built, and when they're being transported to launch at the shipyard, they always have a police escort, as well as electric company trucks to move power lines and such out of the way. When they cross an intersection, they're so slow and long that the cops stop traffic until it gets through.

Still doesn't explain what's in the box, but the police escort is completely in line with what's happening there.

Could be right, that is one big transformer. Are the police there to keep the transformer sate, or becasue of the wide load?

Yup. OST never ever uses local cops or highway patrol. And the trucks are closed, and very nondescript. The escort cars are federal, and not obvious either. Military sometimes transports with more obvious escorts but still no local cops.

If you're an 18 wheeler driving SF retiree, though, they pay real well, I hear.

You ought to see how big the generators at power plants are. My dad used to be a supervisor for The Light Company (HL&P) and would to take me to work with him when I was a kid; I was always amazed at how large the equipment at the plant was.

Transformers of the size in the video you linked were lined up at the sub-station from which the high voltage lines then distributed power away from the plant.

Any time you have over size loads transported, there is an escort; sometimes police sometimes private.

Barnhart's Long Beach, Calif. heavy haul crew received the first generator on August 21 from the ship's hook at the Port of Houston and had to wait a couple of days to clear customs.

It's amazing the amount of infrastructure it takes to keep the lights on.

As others said, some states require police escort for any oversize load, especially for super heavy loads. There are a lot of areas in California where that load is going to have to climb a hill, where with a load that size they're going to be down to 10-15 mph. The police force people to slow down and go around them instead of slamming into the back of the truck.

Hmmm.

- Obama orders preparation for space energy protection

- BPearthwatch releases an interesting video showing the effects of a gamma-ray burst in October that was strong enough to temporarily reverse the shape of the magnetosphere, overcoming the solar wind, and claims a much bigger gamma-ray burst is coming December 26th that will cause grid loss and earthquakes

- New transformers moving into place

Or maybe its just business as usual, perhaps I've been hanging around this CT site too much.

Looks like a standard large/heavy load escorted movement to me.
i must say the container does resemble a large power transformer
but it could be just about any large chunk of industrial machinery.

i doubt it was anything nuclear the container looks the wrong design
and there would be different units escorting it.

here in the uk a nuclear escort convoy is huge with backup vehicles
a heavy wrecker a mobile medical facility a special military protection unit
in the case of warheads or warhead components and a lot of police to isolate the public and keep the
route clear.

I'm sure there's nothing to your supposition...

right?

Hm:

We might have evidence of a recent gamma ray burst that struck the Earth around the year 774. Tree rings from that year contain about 20 times the level of carbon-14 than normal. One theory is that a gamma ray burst from a star located within 13,000 light-years of Earth struck the planet 1,200 years ago, generating all that carbon-14.

Official records show a spike in meteor, asteroid, and comet sightings preceding and following the gravity wave fronting the great gamma ray burst at Christmas 2004. From mid November 2004, and then following the burst’s gravity wave into March, at least 40 known fireballs were reported around the world.

In the days before Christmas, 21 asteroids, meteors, and comets littered the skies around Earth, until one of them crashed into a remote part of the ocean.

...

On December 26, 2004 a magnitude 9.3 earthquake occurred in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sumatra in Malaysia. It caused a powerful tsunami which devastated coastal regions of many countries leaving over 240,000 people either dead or missing. It was the worst tsunami to affect this area since the 1883 explosion of Krakatao. The earthquake that produced it was so strong that it exceeded by a factor of 10 the next most powerful earthquake to occur anywhere in the past 25 years.

Quite right. My uncle Cyril was an experienced lorry driver, and frequently had police escorts when he was carrying longer loads.

OT ramble: ON

I love the way the brits and aussies call them lorry's.

The queen's English is still far and away more lyrical and descriptive than the US version in my opinion.
