Trump's supporters are the minority. His failure to secure the popular vote, and thus his failure to win the hearts and minds of the people will haunt his entire presidency-- assuming he gets that far. He lost 5x worse than Bush in 2000. Losing by roughly 2.7 million votes... Republicans really aren't too good at winning hearts and minds, are they?

It seems that people fail to understand that we are a republic of 50 states and not a Democracy. In your perfect world LA and NY City could decide every election and so I'm sure everyone else would just love that. One thing to think about is Hillary took 84 votes from just two states and still lost by a good margin..hmmm makes one wonder...

In a republic, a constitution or charter of rights protects certain inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by the government, even if it has been elected by a majority of voters. In a "pure democracy," the majority is not restrained in this way and can impose its will on the minority.

I love how it is all of these millions of people who are in the altered state of reality, not the one weirdo reporter who is living in this altered state.

Yes, Rachel, we are in an alternate reality where you don't matter and America comes first. Rachel's reality is that if anger, division and a weak America. She can keep it...I want no part of anything Rachel Maddow.

Yes....sadly no more watching cop cars burn and waxing on about symbols of injustice and knowing that.....even POTUS is watching your report live from the situation room......and how you bring new insight to the job of uncovering wicked america with every passing moment of your diatribe.

Well she and others had to shift gears so hard so that their regular watchers wouldn't spend to much time thinking about how wrong she was about Hill being next POTUS. So they just keep talking as if nothing ever happened while doing an inertia hard turn body slam on their listeners.

Oh and by the way Santa is a fake Jesus Shaman figure......the devils alternative.

They still do not yet realize that the beast - i.e. the illberal and antinomian image of satan - is at the head of their freaking party - and yet the boogey man, the thing to be feared, is that one thing which would render these creeps equal to their fellow man i.e. socialism. Can't let that happen, of course.

You still don't get it do you.... It was an anyone but Hillary vote, or no vote.

No, I don't get that. You have written nothing to justify why Hillary is worst than Trump.

Clearly, Trump is worse. Trump is chaos. Trump is incoherenyc, inconsistency, Orwellian double-speak made real.

Only insane people who revel in insanity - or who are naive to know what real suffering and needs feels like - would enjoy this.

First, intellectuals (regular readers of non-fiction, like me) are outside the loop: don't bother appealing to them...

And finally, simplicity. My posts are not for the internet junkie who receives his news in bits and pieces...

I am happy to see that you are an "intellectual" because you read non-fiction and that one of your hallmarks is simplicity. Someone must have hacked your account and wrote a long, complicated, post. I'm sure that you meant to say something like everyone lives in their own reality and political affiliation has nothing to do with it. You probably also meant to say that there is a broad spectrum of alternate realities in both parties; some people are reasonably realistic and others border on insanity. Rachel Maddow has merely reported on a poll that she liked and the title should have been "Poll Interpreted to Reveal Trump Voters are in Alternate State of Reality."

Hillary has been in politics her whole adult life, and has failed in politics her whole adult life. She IS NWO, she fully believe she is above the law in all that she does. The difference between Trump and Hillary is Hillary is a proven failure, lair etc and Trump isn't even in office yet to gauge him one way or the other.

Hilary is either stupid or totally corrupt, pick your poison with that one...

Once again... it was an anyone but Hillary vote..... Too bad the anyone was Trump, but hey we got Obama for 8 years and I'm sure so many enjoyed that, I guess Trump can't be much worst...lol

Sorry if my post confused you. I was saying simplicity is what appeals to most people, for instance, my "wall of words" usually doesn't appeal to people whose minds are already made up. My post was complex - not simple, so I was not contradicting myself - as a reader of non-fiction i.e. physics, biology, etc, I only mean to say that my mind-brain reflects what it does i.e. it has developed a high threshold for complex representation - precisely that which "falls through' the minds of people used to simple explanations - even explanations that are deceptively simple, because their mind-brains literally do not possess the structure to metabolize complex meanings.

I realize the problem. It's a big problem: elites without scruples take advantage of the low-quantity-threshold of mind-brains that don't exercise themselves i.e. because what they do for a living does not entail the complexification of their mind-brains - not because they're intrinsically dumb, but because consciousness, like everything else in this world - is subject to physical dynamical processes i.e. brains change their structure as a function of, well, function. Functional connections actually build up structural networks, through neurogenesis (proliferation and migration of neurons), myelinogenesis, synaptogeneis, all of which happens through the non-stop cacophony of genetic-epigenetic regulation, such as jumping genes - about 60% of genes in our neurons literally move from chromosome to chromosome - this being, as the geneticist John Parrington believes, the physiological basis of our mental dexterity.

So that's the biggest problem. Understanding how the world works cannot be collapsed into a 200 page post. Its hard to compete against people who spend their days searching for ways to activate/manipulate other people i.e. whose interest in cognitive science and psychology is purely for their own financial or political interest, and not any humanitarian sense of wanting to improve the knowledge-base of every human being that enters society.

Rachel Maddow has merely reported on a poll that she liked and the title should have been "Poll Interpreted to Reveal Trump Voters are in Alternate State of Reality."

But why should she care about that? This is part and parcel to the general "cult of the amateur", as if what people do for a living isn't the bedrock of what they can know: just look at Trumps selection process thus far. It's as if reality is being deliberately turned on its head: the man who forgot the name of the 3 agencies of government he would change - Rick Perry - is being nominated for the agency her forgot, and furthermore, an agency historically headed by academically accredited physicists.

It's simply reality: I don't want a non-mechanic working on my car, I don't want someone who hasn't put himself through medical school to become a surgeon conducting surgery upon me, and likewise, people who don't know a lick about how their minds work, should have the maturity to defer to people who study the brain, mind and human development.

But clearly, deferring to a mechanic or a doctor is more socially legitimized than trusting a psychologist. For good reason, as much of 20th century psychology has been based on partial truths (behaviorism) or complete hogwash (Freudian psychoanalysis). Psychology should be continuous with ethology - animal behavior, which is why 21st century psychology, working from he insights of John Dewey, William James and Pierre Janet in the late 19th century, has got itself back on the right footing.

I'm a representative of such a school on this website, trying to inject reason and temperance, but alas, competition being what it is - and difficult, complex ideas suggesting what they do i.e. that the reader is "stupid", because he himself doesn't have such a capacity, not recognizing the type of work that comes in earnng such a capacity, or appreciating that some carriers of such a capacity remind themselves of how fortunate they are to be in a position to inform and help others.

Anywhooooo, in the end, the simplest and most economically relaxed process will be chosen, so I can accept being ignored/dissociated by brain-minds (a term I use to place mind back in matter, where it deserves to be understood) that are ill-prepared to metabolize my message - however frustrating that can be for me, its the way the world works.

Good point. The point that beep of a woman(the reporter) was to mock Trump supporters and the OP does the same thing too which is why she posted it.

Your post was not so much confusing as a display of what you know about. To engage the reader on a board such as this, concise writing styles have the advantage. One should be clear and not obfuscate one's points with excessive wordiness or hint that one is intellectually superior. Many on these boards are far more educated than you might think and asking a question on any subject will likely get you useful answers. The posters are more open to new ideas and will argue passionately about their positions on things. There may be some animosity and internet bravura but that is to be expected.

Why should Rachel care? Because stirring the pot is what she does for a living and the interpretation of a poll that attacks Trump supporters makes her feel good. She is one of the many stung by the upset and is trying to cover her failures as a journalist, of sorts. I heard that she was also supportive of Hillary, so there is likely an element of disappointment, too.

DOE was not historically headed by physicists; many were only lawyers and one was a dentist turned politician. Only lately have there been physicists. Some of those are plagued by not knowing what they don't know [Trump like?] but the best of the lot by far was a Chem E turned businessman; Sam Bodman. He was still an engineer at heart and understood all levels of the programs much better than any of the others, including Nobel Prize winners.

Don't accept being ignored unless you are afraid that your ideas won't stand up to scrutiny. Consider shortening your word-bombing posts and not digressing to show the breadth of your skills.

Tired of the right's threats about what will happen if this election doesnt go their way. Let the electors decide-- if they have the courage and wisdom they will not vote for Trump.

More evidence that Trump supporters live in an alternate state of reality:

A new poll shows an astonishing 52% of Republicans incorrectly think Trump won the popular vote
washingtonpost.com

Clinton’s lead now exceeds 2.8 million votes (more than 2.1 percent of the total vote) and continues to grow. Many Democrats hope this fact alone might persuade Republican electors to reject Trump in favor of some alternative.

But this hope faces a serious challenge: Half of all Republicans actually think Trump won the popular vote.

I've seen plenty of this false belief here on ATS.
