Rex Tillerson

So that should end all of the speculation.

Cue from the left 'the Russians are coming'.

Will Exxon's 'Bromance' With The Kremlin Help Keep Putin In Check?

When you consider the obvious contempt that Putin and his team have for President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and anyone else from the administration, it seems clear that Putin's friendship with Tillerson is likely the most constructive high-level Russo-American relationship there is.

Actually , Trump left him out. Trump is looking for non lifelong politician types. And it has been said , Romney's consideration for SoS was merely Trump taunting him.

I am going to pull a Hollywood star for Clinton deal on this one.If Mitt runs for President ever , I am moving to Canada , Or Russia

Here is a transcript of Tillerson's meeting with Putin, courtesy of WikiLeaks:

Vladimir Putin: Good afternoon, Mr. Tillerson (Rex Tillerson, Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer of the ExxonMobil Corporation), colleagues and
friends,

I am very pleased that the company Rosneft has joined today to sign a
strategic partnership agreement with one of the worlda**s leaders on this
market, ExxonMobil. This project promises to be highly interesting and
ambitious. Today's event is sure to receive a positive reaction from the
world energy markets; Exxona**s exploration of Russiaa**s strategic
continental and deep water shelf will open new horizons.

Of course, the scope of investment in this project is very large. In all,
direct investments will amount to 200-300 billion. Including funding for
development, infrastructure and new construction, the amount of investment
could reach 500 billion.

ExxonMobil is certainly one of the worlda**s leading companies that also
operates in difficult conditions of the Arctic. It is my understanding
that your company has worked on the continental shelf for about 50 years
and has developed unique technology. I was surprised to learn that your
platform in Canada can sustain an impact from a one-tonne iceberg.

For Rosneft, this offers great prospects. Mr. Tillerson, I believe that an
agreement has been reached with your colleagues that will allow Rosneft to
work in your fields, including in the United States, in the Gulf of
Mexico, Texas, and to participate in a number of joint projects in the
territory of third countries (but this is a question of both companiesa**
bilateral relations).

I am pleased that such a good, reliable, strategic partner has emerged for
us. The Russian government will support your efforts to ensure the success
of your business in Russia.

Apparently, this was a Condoleezza Rice suggestion.

Secretary of State consideration

Rex Tillerson was first recommended to Trump for the Secretary of State role by Condoleezza Rice, during her meeting with Trump in late November.[39] Rice's recommendation of Tillerson to Trump was backed up by Robert Gates, three days later.[40] Media speculation that he was being considered for the position began on December 5, 2016.[41]

On December 9, transition officials reported that Tillerson was the top candidate for the position surpassing Mitt Romney and David Petraeus.[42] His nomination was reportedly being advocated by Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner.[43]

On the evening of December 10, the BBC cited NBC reports that "sources close to Mr Trump [were] ... saying that Mr Tillerson is likely to be named next week" and that former UN ambassador John Bolton "will serve as his deputy".[44] On December 12, The New York Times reported that he had been chosen.[4]

I highly respect Condoleezza Rice and was so glad that DT is willing to listen. He seems to be taking the advice of people who have been there and know things. He is showing his astute business side.

I keep hearing how Trump and his gang are supposed to be homophobic, but he's nominated a Republican who played a significant role in reshaping BSA policy to allow gays to participate. I see it as at least one reason to remain cautiously optimistic.

Good news for Exxon / Rosneft , Tillerson is against sanctions imposed on Russia which he says has cost their joint venture up to $1 Billion.

Vlad will be happy.

Ugh, typical response from you, not surprised the least.

We get it, your position is clear, you don't have to keep reinforcing it.

I think this is a good pick. We believe in strong US and Russo ties. The greatest powers collaborating for energy is a lot better than fighting for it.

He is thinking outside the box...finding businesspeople and not your typical politician. Who did you expect him to fill his cabinet with, workers from McDonalds?

its weird isnt it? there is a sizable contingent of people who appear to PREFER an adversarial relationship with Russia than a friendly one. So strange. I would rather everyone on earth get along and work together......what kind of people dont want that?

im first and foremost a human....that means things like politics and religion come a distant second. If there is even a remote chance at peace shouldnt we pursue it doggedly since the alternative is very very bad for everyone and everything (even the animals) ?

Im far more suspicious of those who seem keen on whipping up tensions and war rhetoric over relatively small infractions on the world stage. Clinton wanted to go to war over cyberhacking? really? thats like wanting to kill someone because they stole your place in line, its a total retard strength level escalation that NO ONE wants except psychopaths in government. Anyone that goes along with that kind of rhetoric is equally reprehensible as those calling for it outright. War mongers of any kind shall not dine at my table or share my confidence.

They are going to make so much money.
You wonder why Trump will not release his tax returns? so you can not tell how much he and his cronies make while in office.

Anyone who thinks a company that gets 1.8 billion a year in subsidies, while making well over five times that in profit is not the swamp need to recheck their beliefs.

This is the very definition of oligarch. Which Russia is exclusively.

So one of the countries largest welfare recipients is going to be head of the state dept where he can procure decades more of profit.

Disgusting.

As bad as his labor pick who has zero manufacturing expertise.

Can't wait for his deficit spending tax plan, his deportations to increase food costs, and his trade wars to double the cost of goods.

The best thing America can ever have is a lame duck president.

It's time the feds stop "fixing" things. It is never for the people anymore.

Makes a lot of sense. As head of a major oil company, Tillerson has been all over the world, and negotiated deals all over the world. He's probably better qualified than most people who have already been SoS.
