I don't know what motivates people to do what they do, but I think it as a nice thing to do.

If giving away 46 grand is not a concern then the tax is hardly likely to be an issue.
No more impressive than someone on minimum wage slipping £20 to their local food bank.
Perspective is all.

Why does it matter?

You don't think it as an appropriate thing to do.

Uh, okay.

It's not like you get a trophy if you win an ATS argument.

Disagree away!

Hell, disagree some more!

You disagreeing does not impact my feelings towards the gesture.

Whatever, I think it was a waste when far more needy people could have benefited.
But yeah little Johnny's new X box...you're breaking my heart now.

I bet you are fun at funerals...

We agree it was a kind gesture at least.
I just think it was a waste of 46 grand when there are hungry people using food banks in that particular PA region.
It is a reasoned position to hold.

Do you have a more mature, reasoned, and on topic contribution to make in this thread than that?

Yes I know.
Talking about a member (me) instead of discussing the topic.
I chose to respond as I am free to do so.
Unfortunately ATS is not your website.

Nobody is telling you not to say what's on your mind, we know you are free to say whatever you like just as we can say you have a grinch attitude.

Nope not really.

You want to find fault with someone or something paying off the layaway for random strangers then have at it..
Sometimes, in life, you take your moments of joy when you can get them and Im sure that single mother who wasnt sure how she was going to afford the gifts for her kids is experiencing unexpected joy this holiday season.

Her joy is no less important then anyone else who is need but hey some people always need something to complain about.. =)

No, her joy is less important than someone who doesn't know where their next meal is coming from.
I respect your right to believe that lil Johnny's x-box is more important though.

I enjoy debate not warm fuzzy mutual agreement love-in's.
And yep, 46 grand on consumer goods is a waste in my opinion when that area in PA has hungry people using food banks.

Nope, interesting debate, that is different of course.
It is not me being overly emotional in this thread or throwing ad hominems around, or childish Grinch videos with no comment.
This is a debating site in current affairs.
Take it to off topic General Chat if you want the warm fuzzy love-in, or the shed lol

*edit*
I see your edit.
No reasoned opinion to offer?
Oh dear.

Awesome, good on you for being able to define who is more worthy of joy..
Thankfully it wont detract any from the people that got something from this .

Yes, it is of course obvious that hungry people come before Lil Johnny's x-box, unless you can reason otherwise?

You keep saying Xbox.
Maybe Jonny is getting some new shoes that don't have holes or a new winter coat to keep him warm.

Ah the homeless automatically makes you more noble then someone else argument..

What's to say that the single mother didnt have a comforter on lay away to keep her kids warm..

You want to feel like you have the moral high-ground on then this great, it literally has no impact on my thinking great if someone in what can be a horrible world received some unexpected joy..

Yeah okay.
Average of 200+ dollars per 194 layaway, we can only imagine.
Food is still more important to hungry people using food banks in that particular PA region though.
Perhaps you disagree about that?

I think that is unlikely but I respect your right to an opinion though.
Clutching at straws at best, the 46 grand would have helped many more actually hungry people.
That is a fact even if you don't like it.
