It's an issue because she just pulled something out of thin air and reported it as a fact. It wasn't like she got a date wrong or a name wrong. She just made something up, stated it as fact, let it float around for a few hours, then issued an apology.

That's the same thing Harry Reid did when he said Romney hadn't paid his taxes. When called out on his lie, his response was, "We won, didn't we". Never mind that he made the whole thing up and lots of people bought into it.

Apology not accepted.

Queen, do you have a source for she made this up, or was there maybe someone told her this? Are you her, are you in her mind, how do you know these things?

Hell, Trump has probably never paid taxes, most likely neither has Romney.

ANNNND of course, you guys are attacking the OP, not even discussing the BS, flat out lie, perpetrated in the link.

Way to deflect.

This is getting beyond absurd anymore.

To quote a member who piped in earlier:

Yeah, go on about slander lol... as if the "opposition," doesn't also partake in this.

If this is true, it is getting way past the time where the FCC needs to step in and start revoking and cancelling broadcast licenses.

If a channel ostensibly calls itself a 'news channel or service', it is in the business of broadcasting actual news, not biased lies.

If found to be deliberately broadcasting lies and portraying those lies as genuine news stories...take their licenses away.

This is a VERY simple way to stop this unending wave of fake news and direct lying from so-called news outlets.

Nothing could be simpler in fact...the question arises, why has this not been done already?

How does CNN, MSNBC and the rest gotten away with their crap for so long without official FCC investigation and sanctions, up to and including pulling their broadcast licenses?

Are the FCC THAT toothless? Are these fake news channels THAT influential? Is there THAT much money greasing the right palms? Would there be THAT huge a Public backlash against pulling these liars Broadcast licenses?

What's the deal...how do they persist? They are without question breaking broadcast rules...correct that..they are completely ignoring and gobbing on broadcast rules, yet nothing is being done..why?

While I agree with much that you say, there are a few things that we share a different opinion on.

There is something simpler and far more immediate than the FCC stepping in. We can just turn the channel or turn off the TV.

They are pushing that live Facebook, Twitter and YouTube streaming, may lead people to false conclusions, but I think they are really afraid that they will lose the ability to remotely control what we see and think.

We have a constitution that protects speech and the press. What you describe would be a clear violation of the 1st amendment.

That's because CNN, MSNBC and even Fox News can be clearly biased and factually incorrect at times, but they are not the equivalent of the Right Wing "fake" outlets that fabricate nonsense and take things out of context for the purpose of confirmation bias.

It puzzles me how so many have such a hard time understanding the difference between the MSM and the fake sites. It's almost as if it's some sort of defense mechanism because they are embarrassed that they were trolled by these websites.

What rules, specifically?

Hillary lost the election because she was a TERRIBLE candidate...

My parents are yellow dog democrats and my dad pulled the lever for a republican president for the first time in his life...

I assure u he never once visited "fake news" outlets and he only reads the Dallas Morning News, NY Times and watches only CNN...

The reason Hillary lost was because of WHO SHE IS...
Fake news had little, if anything, to do with her colossal failure...

She could have made 2 or 3 trips to Wisconsin and possibly won that state...but her sensibilities are that of an imperial prefect and she saw no reason to waste her time "connecting" with the little people...

She friggin lost Michigan....that is unfathomable for a democrat...fake news had nothing to do with it...
Trumps ridiculous work ethic and connection with people won the day...he defeated hillary in battle on the field of ideas and policy...

Sorry but y'all can whine all u want about nonsensical excuses but the fact is ur pick was a bad candidate and she lost to a better person with better ideas…

I have to agree with you on that.

What a lot of people are having a hard time accepting, is that a lot of voters didn't vote because they have given up on a government they feel has given up on them. If Hillary had knocked on every door in American bringing tea, taking selfies, and kissing a baby, it would not have made a difference. She symbolized everything that Americans didn't want.

Approximately 75% of Americans said "no" to our existing government. That is what they don't want us to talk about. 75% of Americans rejected Trump also, he just happened to win because he was the competing candidate, and won by default.

The real story here is that Americans are rejecting a corrupt, rogue government. That is what they don't want people to focus on, or to talk about. 75 percent. Imagine 75% of Americans working together and fighting to reclaim control of their government. How terrifying that must be for the status quo.

The first time in centuries we have banded together to make a stand, and we are allowing them to let us piss it away, fighting over two marginal candidates that the majority of us didn't want, rejected, and dislike.

Ah but that 2 hours is enough to make millions of people believe it anyway.

That's how they plan things like this.

never mind the 2 million illegal voters in California that trump tweeted out.....FALSE CRAP BY THE NEXT PRESIDENT is equivalent.....give me a break and the RNC party was held at trumps.....what about that donations to the RNC going directly into trumps pocket....yeah no story there, you people are really sick

Once the lie is aired/printed the damage has been done. How many people will catch the correction? Let's say perhaps 50 percent will (that's being generous IMHO). The other 50 percent will believe it was a true story. Expect to see this happen more and more in the future.

A Clinton Fan Manufactured Fake News That MSNBC Personalities Spread to Discredit WikiLeaks Docs

One of the most egregious examples was the recent Washington Post article hyping a new anonymous group and its disgusting blacklist of supposedly pro-Russia news outlets – a shameful article mindlessly spread by countless journalists who love to decry Fake News, despite the Post article itself being centrally based on Fake News. (The Post this week finally added a lame editor’s note acknowledging these critiques; the Post editors absurdly claimed that they did not mean to “vouch for the validity” of the blacklist even though the article’s key claims were based on doing exactly that).

What a load of hooey. Look at the damage they have succeeded in doing. Can this ever be undone? "Fake News" is official now. All the talking heads agree.

More on MSNBC hit job on wikileaks claiming they were doctored or faked:

The most damaging such claim came from MSNBC’s intelligence analyst Malcolm Nance. As I documented on October 11, he tweeted what he – for some bizarre reason – labeled an “Official Warning.” It decreed: “#PodestaEmails are already proving to be riddled with obvious forgeries & #blackpropaganda not even professionally done.” That tweet was re-tweeted by more than 4,000 people......led to an article in something called “The Daily News Bin” with the headline: “MSNBC intelligence expert: WikiLeaks is releasing falsified emails not really from Hillary Clinton.” This classic fake news product – citing Nance and Reid among others – was shared more than 40,000 times on Facebook alone.

Did anyone ever catch whether MSNBC or the other truther new sites retracted this story?

Don't spew your coffee on your keyboard.

I'm unsure of your point. Do you agree that there were many Right Wing "fake" sites out there spreading disinfo, hoaxes and lies to appease the Right Wing's need for confirmation bias, or is that just a fabrication?

Trumps ridiculous work ethic and connection with people won the day...he defeated hillary in battle on the field of ideas and policy...

What you should be saying is that Trump defeated Hillary because people are stupid. Trump had little to no substance on policy or "ideas". Many of his "ideas" raised questions of constitutionality and he appealed to the ultra-nationalist, tribal-like instincts of the ill-informed.

Just adding my 2 cents here regarding rules and consequences:

An Unfettered Press - Libel Law in the United States

Over the past quarter of a century, the courts have favored the media in libel matters, "but such victories have been hard fought and costly, absorbing millions of dollars in attorney fees and thousands of hours in lawyers' offices and courtrooms," according to Roslyn Mazer, a media lawyer in Washington.

Bruce Fein, former general counsel for the Federal Communications Commission, a U.S. government regulatory agency, is one of the lawyers who helped to draft the proposed set of libel laws. Fein says the ultimate goal is to ensure more accurate reporting by journalists so that members of the public are better informed about important public events. But he also thinks it is important that the media still have wide latitude in deciding what to publish. "In a democratic society," says Fein, "everyone has to take some lumps in the media."

One of the most egregious examples was the recent Washington Post article hyping a new anonymous group and its disgusting blacklist of supposedly pro-Russia news outlets – a shameful article mindlessly spread by countless journalists who love to decry Fake News, despite the Post article itself being centrally based on Fake News. theintercept.com...

Do you think Washington Post did this very soft back-pedal because they had a guilty conscience? No.

Wow, a whole lot of salty people in here on both sides. So sad to see a site that used to be full of intellectual discussion and debate turned into a MSM-narrative pushing kindergarten class where people just bash each other constantly.

Wow.

That's fantastic to know. Everyone I know watches & is brainwashed by MSNBC.

Please share more mindless sh*t with us when you're free again.

True, I didn't even know who she was, but I easily found she apologized about 6 hours ago, probably a few hours after she said it.

After the damage is done.
