I am more concerned with the retrieval, gathering, archiving, sharing, and selling of the data collected by the toys to special interest groups (as mentioned in the op's video), rather than the risk of physical predation. How much more of our private lives are we going to give away to the "Information Specialists" who use tidbits of our lives in efforts to subtly sway, influence, and control us?

2. There were a couple instances of baby monitors being hacked.
These new interactive toys respond to the child's conversation and questions. Even if the child's location remains firmly secure and protected from sexual predators, I would hate to have some deranged hacker speaking to a child through the voice of the toy. Children are innocent and impressionable, I shutter at the risk for hackers or special interest groups to use the toys for marketing, propaganda, psychological conditioning, or even wicked suggestions.

It might not be so bad... If the people in charge of the data collected were shown to be trusted. Id love to be able to say "hey you know what? Go ahead amd stick a micro (preferably very micro heh...) camera/mic UP MY ASS for all i care... If it makes everyone safer. Sure put one on my tv, front door, stick one in my pillow. Monitor my fridge. Whatever man. Lets do this. Full blown eradication of every notion of privacy that ever existed.

Except i look back into recent and not so recent history, and it shows me, that time and time again, the corporations, the government, the military, the law enforcement organizations, have proven that they absolutely cannot be trusted and have abused Every Single trust we have given them, to the fullest extent, in every possible way they could benefit from it, and when caught, refuse to deliver anything resembling "a punishment" to their own.

Its not a question of Will it be misused, no, its a definite Yes that it will be at the soonest possible opportunity.

That's why we have to fight this at every place it rears its head. Every INCH we give up to them, is a catastrophic loss of liberty. I look around at how bad its already gotten, and I ask myself "when will it be enough? When will it end?" and i know the answer. "Never" they will always find some excuse why we need to take it one step further.

They need to. It helps them to cover up and distract from their crimes. It helps them control the situation.
