Although I am still personally baffled why the United States put all of its combat aircraft in one basket - it is nice to finally see the F-35 in active use. Breaking defense posted these two youtube clips earlier this week I believe of the aircraft landing and taking off from the USS America:

I expected to see a very futuristic looking aircraft but it`s actually pretty plain looking.

They combined the Developmental Test round 3 and a proof of concept test. The proof of concept put 12 aircraft on board and flew a combined arms mission where they escorted V-22s with troops, and helicopters to clear the landing zone.

DT-III included heavy maintenance challenges on ship in the hangar area. It included changing a lift fan.

That's all below the skin. This is the most amazing and advanced aircraft ever built.

Yeah, for a while there, folks were giving it a hard time, most likely from news sources talking about cost over runs.

I won't lie, I fell for the salt myself simply because I refused to believe anything was better than the F22, though that was just me being bias.

The F35 is finally shaping up to be a potent and powerful system. Now we just need to fill a New gerald ford clasals carriers full of them.

The new testing reports are mind blowing to read about the things they're doing.

Disinformation is a key to military superiority... If the enemy thinks that your platform sucks, and truly believes it, well then....

It kinda did suck for awhile. They are doing things even the F-22 can only dream of, and the parts and pieces really didn't want to work well with others for a long time.

But if they think it still sucks, all the better.

Do you mean electronically, or the airframe itself? I don't know any more than the next guy, but I'm betting the sensor fusion, and ability to to data into information will be the F-35's strongest suit.

Both. Their stealth is so good that when they trained against ground targets in Idaho they had to turn on their transponder so the ground threats could see them, so they could develop tactics.

Their sensor fusion pulls so much data that they can't transmit it all to other aircraft.
