Washington is the first state to sue Monsanto Co., claiming the agrochemical giant knowingly marketed and sold PCBs, despite company awareness that the chemicals were toxic and carcinogenic.
The lawsuit was announced in a joint press conference with Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Governor Jay Inslee.
PCBs were used for decades to insulate and cool electrical equipment. Monsanto was the only producer.

"For too long the company escaped responsibility for the costs, the enormous costs of the clean-up of this material,” Inslee said. “They've left the state and counties and cities and private entities to foot the bill.”

Question is...what will Trump do about this as President? GMO-free food for thought
It's tempting to think that all your energy, your money, your time, was wasted. But your support for GMO labeling initiatives, in California last year, and in Washington State this year, has propelled GMO labeling onto the national stage.
You are the reason Rachel Maddow and Stephen Colbert, the New York Times and the Guardian, are talking and writing about GMOs.
Your commitment, your passion, have forced Monsanto and Big Food to cough up millions of dollars to fight you. You've dented their wallets. You've cracked their foundations.
Donald Trump's election win and his pick for attorney general could be a big boost to Bayer AG's $66 billion purchase of Monsanto Co. that is currently undergoing state and federal antitrust investigations.
"Farmers get paid less for their crops, more pesticides are used and there are fewer options for consumers at the grocery store," Wenonah Hauter, the executive director of Food & Water Watch, told EcoWatch after Bayer and Monsanto announced acquisition plans in September.
Right. At the end of every GMO discussion is CHEMISTRY. What if any chemical differences are there between heirloom soy and GMO soy?

This has nothing to do with GMOs. Which thousands of independent studies have proven safe. That's independent of Monsanto, or any other scapegoat for the science illiterate.
This has everything to do with chemical pollution that Monsanto needs to own up to.
