I'll miss you Carol

It's the middle of the night.
It's cold and wet outside their brownstone home in Bed-Stuy New York right off of Lexington.
Carol and Steven are downstairs arguing over what she claims are curious charges to their bank account.
Upstairs their 8 yr old daughter Katie slept.

Wait, let me take you back.
Back before the mistrust and sleepless nights and insecurity fueled fights.
Let's go back to when their love was in it's youth if only momentarily...
Carol and Steven met their Junior year in high school and had been inseparable since.
Carol was always the rigged type A personality that held everything together
while Steven was moderately a hippie in his own mind but really just disorganized and not entirely motivated
although brilliant and innovative. Steven after high school attended the University or New Orleans for design
getting a Ph.D In product service systems.

Carol stayed in New York going to NYU School of medicine and doing her residency at New
York Methodist hospital for internal medicine.
Soon after Steven moved back to New York they chose to have a child together and solidify their relationship
and commitment to each other.
Now that we have caught up a bit i'll continue...
Steven had just come back from a week long business trip in New Orleans.
His company Concrete Logistics United (CLU Lmtd.) had been granted the
contract to renew and revitalize the city.

He was sent to smooth over any loose ends and given Stevens connections and ties to
the community he was the logical fit. Having already gone over the new designations of urban spaces that
had been leveled by Katrina and subsequent weather calamities. His companies goal was simple -
To enrich and modernize the communities by disregarding the poor and creating vacuums in market prices through their
optimization of the preset urban areas, driving "undesirable" residents out. It's gentrification on crack.
On his return Carol unable to meet him since she was on rotation, now having been on for 15 hours.

When she did finally get home it was late..It was wet...It was cold outside.
Katie's nanny Martha had gone home for the evening and she found Steven in the study alone.
Monitoring his expenses had become a hobby for her curiosity and need for control over all aspects of her life.
She came in ready for a fight and he was caught blind-sided by the suspicions she was imposing on his behavior.
"Why did you withdraw cash from an ATM inside of a hotel YOU WEREN'T STAYING AT???"
"Steven what is going on? ARE YOU SEE SOMEONE ELSE?"
On the table laid Charles Dickinson's timeless classic, Steven had been reading it to their
daughter every night of this December month.
This was a special edition leather bound that came with a metal case with an ornate engraving of a door knocker.

Years of repressed anger and rage and isolation within his marriage had now finally spilled over.
With almost practiced execution Steven began bludgeoning Carol over the head with it.
Over and over again he hit her while Bing Crosby's I'll be home for Christmas played in the background.
Much like that soldier she's not going to make it. He knows he's gone too far. His fears have now become her consequences.
Her twitching body now laid on the floor next to the special edition blood covered A Christmas Carol.
"I'll miss you sooo much" - His words to her now lifeless body heard when Katie found them.
The detectives would later call this case "The Scariest Christmas Carol".

Hello again and Thank You.

The Thanx is for Entering this into the contest, and for just sharing it in general!

Insecurities fester until They reached the boiling point!
A Very Real World scenario!, captured in a Fictitious Story. (It is fiction, right?)

I really liked this as it was/is Well done.

Very Well done indeed!!!

ETA: Oh. I was hoping to be Number 6 for Flags and Stars. You know. It fits, for Me!

I was happy however to give You number 5 on those both!
