Tell you what. You stay away from those news sites, and let the rest of us who have sense enough to identify a hoax discern what's real and what's not on our own.

Were you all up in the Birther Movement too? Sandy Hook? Still think Obama was born in Kenya? And I can't even repeat the other it's so stupid I don't have the stomach to repeat it.

And for the rest of you so in a tailspin about youtube taking down their mess this morning from what appears to be an effort to avoid a law suit for naming a restaurant, consequently ruining it without any substantiation whatsoever.

This hoax was directed towards Trump supporters and you have swallowed it hook line and sinker.

I'm sorry.

Given your posting history and your obvious bitterness at the election outcome, I am quite sure you will stick to the fake news sites like CNN.

perhaps you can offer a training class where all the "smart folk" from the left can teach us ignorant deplorables how to spot "fake" news. We r so stupid, we just fall for anything that sounds like what we want to hear. Thanks for being so damn intelligent. I can't imagine what we would do without smart folks such as yourself.

I'm not bitter, and I am trying to find the silver lining to the election. This thread is about the hoax being perpetrated against Trump supporters. I guess y'all think these old folks have such a hot burning libido they will do anything to get their kicks. Yep. Hillary is a hot burning hunk of flesh. Gawd. I mean, can you see it in her eyes, or what? I can't identify it. Is it the pant suits?

I honestly don't think they have the hormones left to support such debauchery.

But, as you wish. Carry on. I hope it's beautiful in the UK today. All is well. I don't mean to pick on you. You are the one of the one's I will actually still speak to. lol. I know you wish I wouldn't.

Peace out.

Well said, AD.

This may be an uncomfortable thread to digest for many people, but it's about time we start calling people out for believing the lies and propaganda they subject themselves to willingly.

The Right Wing is heading in a very dangerous direction, so we must say something now.

I'll admit most of the fake news was ran by the right, but their was fake news by the left as well (granted about half).

I have to disagree. I have not seen any website that creates fake news for the Left. There are sites for Lefitsts that are factually wrong and completely biased, but I've yet to see a site that pushes fake stories for the Left.

That being said don't make this partisan, then the problem will just get worse. It's a society problem linked to the new wave of social media outlets. Propaganda has always been around, it has just evolved.

It's a partisan issue. Why can't we call a spade a spade and address the issue?

Wouldn't 'factually wrong and completely biased' be fake?
The entire argument around fake news seems to be the effect of such news on driving a false narrative and influencing popular opinion. When facts are incorrect and pushed because of a biased agenda, that is fake news in the sense it pushed a fake narrative and misleads. I don't think we're talking about 'fake' in the sense of sites like The Onion.

That depends. How about you give some specific examples of mainstream news citations which you consider to be fake, an explanation as to what exactly about them is fake, and a citation showing the fact or facts with which you have dispute?

No. All of us cna be biased and be wrong on the facts from time to time, but that is not the same as purposfully creating fake news stories to appeals to a certain section of society.

I don't think we're talking about 'fake' in the sense of sites like The Onion.

The onion uses humor for the purpose of entertainment. Right wing sites use fake stories or take things completely out of context for the sake of click-bait profit.

There are a lot of folks who think it's super clever to say "the MSM is the fake news!" The sentiment is not entirely lost on me. After all, didn't an ABC crew just get busted staging a shoot by stringing up crime scene tape between two metal (mic or light) stands to give the appearance that the reporter was standing in front of a crime scene?

Yes, that happened.

But CNN Reported that local ABC outlet in South Carolina fudging the shot!...So that must mean it's actually fake news that the outlet faked it...cuz CNN is fake news..right?

CNN
ABC News staged crime-scene shot, photograph shows
money.cnn.com...

It gets so confusing!

Maybe it's possible that amongst Mainstream News, there are biases, falsehoods and bad reporters?

Just like their are corrupt police officers, but it would be wrong to say that all police officers are corrupt?

What the people defending "Fake News" seem to be claiming is that ...Since Mainstream News is not perfect, then Fake News is real.

Or that since there are corrupt police officers...Street gangs criminal activities should be legal.

Hasty generalization is the fallacy of examining just one or very few examples or studying a single case, and generalizing that to be representative of the whole class of objects or phenomena.

Editor’s Note: The Washington Post on Nov. 24 published a story on the work of four sets of researchers who have examined what they say are Russian propaganda efforts to undermine American democracy and interests. One of them was PropOrNot, a group that insists on public anonymity, which issued a report identifying more than 200 websites that, in its view, wittingly or unwittingly published or echoed Russian propaganda. A number of those sites have objected to being included on PropOrNot’s list, and some of the sites, as well as others not on the list, have publicly challenged the group’s methodology and conclusions. The Post, which did not name any of the sites, does not itself vouch for the validity of PropOrNot’s findings regarding any individual media outlet, nor did the article purport to do so. Since publication of The Post’s story, PropOrNot has removed some sites from its list.

I think we've discovered that the MSM is entirely beholden to special interests, and that they've lost the narrative and have fallen out of touch with the emerging reality, and by that I don't just mean the "Trump" effect.

They've revealed themselves to be fundamentally biased and entirely non-objective.

They don't appear to be concerned with an informed public discourse, but are continually in search of a wedge issue or some controversy to appeal to an emotional reaction and response.

They've almost become tabloidish. And it's obvious.

This doesn't mean that alternative media sources are not responsible for promulgating fake news, but it's the height of hypocrisy for the MSM to try to sell and drive that meme to mean anyone but themselves as the purveyors of "real" news.

It's time to just turn off the TV and disconnect cable television, while seeking to be informed by weighing a broad variety of sources of information, including the international media (except the BBC).

What I'm perceiving, when I read the poorly written articles rife with grammatical and spelling errors, is that the dumbing down has infested the media, like it's some sort of den of elite insiders and blowdried pansies who've sold out and will always read the talking points that come from only God knows where, but it's not from a place that really has our own individual best interests and informed objectivity at heart, and that's clear and the reason that no one trusts them anymore, and the reason why while everyone's turning away from that whole "agenda".

They are like the blind leading the blind into a ditch of their own making.

They're in panic mode now and what we're seeing is their last gasp with this whole fake news meme. It's pathetic, imho.

What's relevant is precisely where we find ourselves at this moment in history as active historical participants. We're what's relevant. The MSM and the elite don't understand this, because they see us only as a massman who's feeding at their hand whatever they're serving, and at last it's made us gag and reject the establishment's narrative, which has now pinned all it's hope on the failure of Donald Trump who they hope to turn into a pariah, but the way things have been going, they're likely to be wrong yet again.

They are blind because they said, we see.

There's a humorous irony in it.

It's time to sing a new song, and create a new piece of art and to create and generate the culture that we are living into as a culture of our own choosing and not in accord wit the Matrix that the MSM were attempting to weave us into accepting as "reality".

The whole world has already moved on, and they can't catch up, because they are blind as bats, and that's interesting, the nature of that hubris in the old system that never imagined that it would forever lose it's own relevancy.

They're lost.

Looking to us, probably, to point the way..

The way it should be.

Fake news, exaggerated news, dupicitous news, opinions disguised as news... These things are every bit as prevalent from left wing media as right wing media. You show your bias, which is fine its the mud pit, but you do have bias.

My bias is not left or right, and i see this quasi-news, this "fake news" of the aforementioned categories coming from every direction. In fact, it comes direct from large corporations, yes theres corporate fake news, theres even scientist fake news and fake science news (not to be confused).

And, the problem that is so apparent it stares us all right in the face is the one kind of media that does not exist in the world of news is non partisan media.
And that should trouble us all.

I do agree with your approach to filtering news. Thats exactly the way to do it. Thats one of the reasons I like ATS so much. It is a clearing house of all different news, fake news, biases, and houses some very good critical thinkers. As such, it makes for a great place to filter the fake, the opinion, the exaggerated, the state pushed official stories (sometimes the fakest of them all), the swindles, the ludicrous... And finally pull a few threads of truth from the fabric of this new (non)reality we live in.

I don't understand the whole "The MSM believed Hillary was going to win, therefore all MSM news is fake" line of reasoning. Could you elaborate?

There are members here who thought that John McCain was going to win in 2008. I can now dismiss everything they post as pure bull based on that qualifier?

I feel like you are being intentionally ignorant to illustrate a point, a point that is a strawman. No one is claiming the msm is full of # because they were wrong, this is simply an obvious example of how most of the msm is completely bought and paid for by the left.

They didn't think she was gonna win, they knew it. Pretty much said there was no point in voting, then they say the stock market will crash tomorrow if Trump is elected,

But when Alex jones says the world will end tomorrow and it doesent happen, how is that any different from what the MSM is doing.

See example below.

Stock market will crash tomorrow- Alex Jones: Fake
Stock market will crash tomorrow- MSM: Real News

To be clear I don't believe this, but How is the government is full of reptile hybrids any different from all trump supports are racist bigots. Both hold the same weight and unprovable baseless-ness

I'm also not saying I believe Alex jones's articles but if he's fake news so is the MSM

More people trust "The Onion" than 'infowars.com'.
