Many years ago there was a big feud between the British and the Dutch, as a result many insults came about in the English language and being referred to as or like a Duchman was as insulting as it got.

This is where we get the phrase "going Dutch" from as the British said that a Durchman was so tight and unchivalrous that he would make a lady pay for her half of the dinner.

Origin

Late 17th century: perhaps from the given name Nicholas or from Nicodemus (by association with the Pharisee of this name, and his naive questioning of Christ; compare with French nicodème simplet.

Seems reasonable if a little weak.

Oh no - a couple of yours were the funniest in the thread. I gave you a star and seriously considered requesting an applause for you.

The picture conjured up by those hedgehogs...

No one ever takes the time to insult me

And I'm very unoffended by it

Shall I compare thee to an English summer's day?

That's a sneaky one for you - the thing about English weather is that a summer's day is likely to be wet and windy.

I hope you feel suitably offended. I made that one up, so I want it to work. Not too well, though.

a proper insult, to me, comes across like sugar, but leaves that bitter after taste. Its most preferrable for them to not even see the insult for a few minutes.

I had this removed by mods once:

Hmm, it would appear that a prick can indeed be more than a simple puncture wound to the skin.

Few years ago. Mate I hadn't seen for a while said, "Alright mate, long time no see. Wow. Don't think I've ever seen you looking...[pause]...so round."

Gutted. Shuffling silence. Woke up next day still feeling the sting. Lost a few pounds pretty quick.

Me and a few mates have a little circal of insults where we like to throw them in such a way as it is deeply offensive but not rude as it were, you can almost get away with it if done right.

A while ago one mate said to another " I like your new belly mate it makes you look a bit portly and gives you a jovial air".

The recipient was deeply hurt but it was done in such a way that no anger could be raised.
