Trump is not giving them anything.

They just get to keep more of what they earn until the economy is repaired and fair trade is re-established.

Meanwhile we do not lose a thousand long term jobs that would otherwise never comeback.

Instead we will have thousands of taxable income jobs for decades worth way more than this temporary tax break.

Well you are right Trump gave them nothing. The deal was all Pence without the approval of the state, not that he has to get it and never does (thank god he isnt going to governor much longer). Also they really only saved about 800 jobs. Carrier was going to keep 300 for engineering, R&D, and headquarters in Indiana before any deal was made. Carrier is still sending more jobs to Mexico then saved.

Now the jobs that are still going to Mexico is the Tariff going to apply for the coils and housings and furnaces that get dumped here by slave labor? Or did Carrier just buy the right from Trump to allow the exploitation of the mexican worker and the firing of US workers?

Bernie is admitting that our tax policy isnt friendly and drives jobs out of the country.

Lower taxes is not giving away tax payer money as the money was never the governments to start with.

Everybody's obsession with saving jobs that will be automated away in 20 years amuses me.

This country is near-sighted and will pay dearly for it.

Tariffs would work better than individual bribes. stomp on a ant, or poison the entire nest..which one is more effective?

True, but tariffs lead to trade wars. This whole thing was a publicity stunt made possible because Pence is still governor of Indiana, and can act without regard to future consequences to the state. Every company can now claim that they are moving out of the state unless they receive the same deal, or else they can sue the state. Even lowering Federal taxes will not help the State of Indiana now.

Corporations now know that they can get favorable deals by holding jobs hostage. What could possibly go wrong?

My point is that Donald Trump was a Lazy , Worthless , no Good Mooching Kid... who has conned Pence into abusing his power as governor to commit his state to a deal that will continue ten years after he has left office.

If that's true then why are they still building the factory in Mexico? Wouldn't thy have cancelled that and gone all 100% America? Wouldn't they have kept ALL the jobs and not just some of them?

At its most basic level, current taxation makes it far more profitable to use cheap overseas labor. That's exactly why so many companies manufacture overseas. They're in the business of making a profit. That's the best current deal for them.

So of course they need incentives to make it profitable and attractive to stay. And that boosts the local economy. More jobs. More reinvestment.

The socialist Sanders however seems to think it's better for the middle class worker to see jobs continue going overseas, while they also get hit with soaring Obamacare costs. Trump with repealing and re-working our healthcare system along with providing incentives for corporations to manufacture within our borders is going to put more money in the corporations hands as well as the hands of the average individual.

BTW, that was a flat out stupid CNN attempted hit piece devoid of any real numbers. You should know better than to post that crap.

Some of the folks here don't get it.

You may be one of them.

Is the tax cut, subsidies, or grant payed for in the budget? If not it becomes debt and it aquires interest from the loan to pay for its loss of revanue.

Is this an industry wide incentive? If not now your picking favorites and creating a winner in the market. So why should they get a tax break and not they competition? Shouldn't the competing companies get the same treatment? If they do go back to first statement is this all paid for in the state and federal budget or is this just more debt and andnd total illusion?

Based on his tax plan I assume this is all smoke and mirrors. Looks like another Reagan disaster.

We need corporate taxes lowered, but it has to be across the board and it has to be paid for in the budget. Or else it's not actually a tax cut.

have the terms of the deal and incentives been disclosed?

according to the article they haven't , so its hard to speculate whether this is a good deal or not at this point.

for all we know the incentive was to not get penalized and possibly lose govt contracts?

plus this is already a trend. its not like carrier is the first to send jobs away to other countries, although they appear to be the first within several decades to backout of doing that due to some type of govt intervention.

like i said , its to early to know if it was a good deal or bad deal at this time.

So the tax payer pays a large profitable corp to stay and to not further devastate the economy? Wow what a system. I guess I see how business done.
You do understand that corporations pass 100% of all taxes to their customers, correct? Corporations charge money based on their expenses. Tax is an expense.

As PROVEN by the flat corporate profits by decade regardless of any specific corporate tax rate, corporate tax is a tax on you and me in the form of higher product prices. Its actually a Republican's perfect tax because its a flat tax equally on the rich and poor. But of course the higher the tax, the more it distorts and damages the economy.

The big problem is that taxation is taking people's property without their permission just like theft or extortion, which is immoral. You can't construct a society based on immorality and corruption while expecting it to be a good one. Impossible. Either have a signed written social contract with negotiating power on all sides, or you don't have a legit government but rather a mafia racket.

Although it was not explicitly stated, Carrier's parent company, United Technologies, relies on government contracts. It is possible that Trump, known for his bullying, might have threatened to withhold future government contracts from them. This would be highly unethical. Expect this to become the first scandal of the next administration.

ETA: Disclosure: I own stock in UTX; I resent threats being made to my retirement plan. I hope any such manipulation on Trump's part is made public.

Social contracts are not signed they are implied by you using roads and when thugs come to loot your home or kidnap your kids you have protection. Social contract has tacit support.

Do you have to sign a deal to go to the gas station?
Taxes are part of the contract. They pay for you to have freedom to own property and for you to use infrastructure.

Too many taxes already has a remedy. It's called congress. Everyone think the president is the most important thing but its not.
