Bernie has a point. Trump said stay, and here is 7 million$ and they said ok we will stay.

Then the story quotes Sanders as saying that all a corp has to do is threaten to offshore and they get incentives. Not exactly being tough on big business.

I guess he showed them.

Sanders key point: If corporations want cushy tax cuts, all you have to do is threaten Trump and say "we're moving to Mexico."

"He has signaled to every corporation in America that they can threaten to offshore jobs in exchange for business-friendly tax benefits and incentives," Sanders wrote.

The incentives are the only reason they are staying, for how long? I would think the very second that Trump is out of office guess what happens to Carrier?

Carrier said it received "incentives" from Indiana, where Vice President-elect Mike Pence is still governor, but declined to specify exactly what sweetened the deal.
"After running a campaign pledging to be tough on corporate America, Trump has hypocritically decided to do the exact opposite," Sanders wrote.

On the campaign trail, Trump frequently threatened to slap Carrier with a stiff 35% tariff if it moved jobs to Mexico. But during negotiations, Carrier depicted a friendlier Trump.

Really not that surprising a socialist who didn't have a real job until his 40's doesn't understand how business works.

Trump is not giving them anything.

They just get to keep more of what they earn until the economy is repaired and fair trade is re-established.

Meanwhile we do not lose a thousand long term jobs that would otherwise never comeback.

Instead we will have thousands of taxable income jobs for decades worth way more than this temporary tax break.

So the tax payer pays a large profitable corp to stay and to not further devastate the economy? Wow what a system. I guess I see how business done.

You would rather 1000 people collect at least 20,000 each in unemployment benefits and good jobs go to Mexico?

Now they are actullly paying into the system and will do so for decades.

I lost respect for Bernie now, I thought he would have been a good president but now I feel he is just another politician.

If trump does not get this presidency because of recounts, Our stock market will take the biggest nosedive it ever has. Most Republicans have real money. The democrats started a rumor the market would crash if Hillary did not win. It did the opposite. What happens if Hillary would twist it around and win the states. I would not trust the recount either, I would demand a recount by a neutral party. Local people working in the recount will most likely be democrats. Most of the county workers around here are democrats. I am thinking it is that way in a lot of areas.

I predict if Hillary does get this election reversed, the stock market will have the biggest crash it ever had in history. Just incase, maybe we will cash in some stocks while the stocks are high.

They still are moving quite a few jobs out of America....just not as many.

And from what I read, they're going to be keeping low wage jobs at that. So this is what it comes to...more jobs, but more lower paying jobs.

America needs better paying jobs, not necessarily more jobs.

so he he paid $7 million and saved 800 jobs

$7,000,000
/ 800
= $8750

So $8750 per job that probably pays between $50K - $80K PA

That plant stays open 2 years and the Gov has more than recouped its investment just in Income tax alone, add to that the 800 people not out of work taking jobs that other people need and the knock on effect to the local economy where the production is based and I would say the $7 mill isnt just a good deal its a fricken steal.

You gotta be a real special kind of stupid or so blind with Trump hate that common sense has walked out your brain door to not see this as a good thing

At its most basic level, current taxation makes it far more profitable to use cheap overseas labor. That's exactly why so many companies manufacture overseas. They're in the business of making a profit. That's the best current deal for them.

So of course they need incentives to make it profitable and attractive to stay. And that boosts the local economy. More jobs. More reinvestment.

The socialist Sanders however seems to think it's better for the middle class worker to see jobs continue going overseas, while they also get hit with soaring Obamacare costs. Trump with repealing and re-working our healthcare system along with providing incentives for corporations to manufacture within our borders is going to put more money in the corporations hands as well as the hands of the average individual.

BTW, that was a flat out stupid CNN attempted hit piece devoid of any real numbers. You should know better than to post that crap.

Of course not, I am glad that the company is staying.

United tech owns Carrier, and has contracts worth billions with the government. (Let me preface this with saying that it is easy to throw mud when I am on the outside of this whole Carrier thing.)

It seems that Trump had these guys by the short hairs, and he basically gave the company big $$$ to stay. And it is tax payer money. I don't know if this company is broke, I don't know if there market share is falling, I can't know profitability, it's not available.
Too many unknowns, but I am glad that the jobs are staying. But I bitched about the Bankers getting such a sweet deal from the tax payers, so at least I am consistent.

If there are more jobs than people to fill them companies pay more to keep their workers, or to recruit good workers from other companies.

When there are not enough jobs to go around workers will stay and suffer low pay, because there is no where else to go.

The only way to get better paying jobs is to have more jobs than people. Otherwise there is no incentive for companies to pay below minimum wage.

At least Trump is coming to the table and attempting to make things work. Sanders is just a saber rattling blow hard whose solution to every problem is make an enemy out of everyone who disagrees with him. It solves absolutely nothing and if he had his way with corporate America it would come crashing down on our heads regardless. Newsflash: Utopia doesn't exist.

Sorry, those jobs are gone.

It's not Mexico that is the problem.

As has been pointed out by many serious commentators, the real problem of job loss is occurring because of "automation", not the result of moving jobs overseas. The overseas move is just temporary transition into the final automation phase that's coming.

But focus on bringing back those overseas jobs "temporarily" is good theater. They are "not" long term jobs.
