I was choppin it up with a friend for a bit the other day, brainstorming some cool Sci if ideas.

We eventually came up with an interesting hypothesis and potential plot for, well anything really.

The idea is that the typical grey aliens are a highly advanced and relatively ancient species from a planet within the Milky Way that decided to create "project systems" wherein a system is very purposefully and meticulously laid out, including the seeding of life on the planets in the system.

Here's where it gets weird.

The plot twist is that while they may seem to be our progenitors, the truth ends up being that they took DNA from a far more ancient species from early on in the age of the Universe, their progenitors.

Who were their ancestors? Super ancient humans.

Which then would lead to the question of why make a jurassic park system essentially, bringing about their ancestor's DNA again.

That question would have many possible answers and I haven't gotten to it quite yet, but the general theory is kind of a neat idea.

What you're saying is that we're expendable lab rats.

Therein lies the part of the OP regarding the potential reasons for said projects, both foreseen and unforeseen.

Self-progenitation is an elegant theory for assuring continued existence. When we nuke ourselves into oblivion, mama and papa greys could re-seed our species on another hospitable world, since they have the source DNA. Cool!

They could have done it because they lost the part of DNA that lets them heal. Like if we get cut, our bodies can heal themselves. Their's can't. They have to rely on technology. They can't fight off the common cold.

Well who doesnt want to clone dinosaurs??? maybe we are just their version of dinosaurs.

Being masters of their trade/hobby, they no doubt look at suitable planets, seed them with a variety of simple life forms and come back in a few million years to see what worked and then proceed to the next step. The course is simple, spread life, encourage consciousness, check progress ever so often and decide at some point if the experiment was a success or failure.

Since this scenario closely follows age-old concepts of human religions, some folks wonder if the rhyme and reason of the cosmos might not be such a mystery after all.

The way I read the OP, is that the ancient humans are the progenitors of the greys, who then become the progenitors of modern humans. Why would we be their version of dinosaurs? Dinosaurs are not our progenitors.

So this was a story plot that you were considering but have not yet formulated, interesting but the only solution to the conundrum is either inter dimensional being's from a potential future universe whom transcend time and since they are now outside of time there universe and it's causality no longer effect's them meaning that they can cause object's out of time and from other potential and actual reality's to exist were they would otherwise not, they do not have to be the human's and being outside of the rule's of time, perhaps existing as being's of super space the chicken and the egg question does not apply to them anymore.

Or time is fractured and the human's of the distant past were being's that got there via a wormhole since they can join different point's in the TIME SPACE continuum, different in Time and in Space.

Of course this is just science fiction so the Gray's could be human's descendant's or even engineered clone's based on partial human and other dna whom have adapted to low light level sub surface existance throughout the solar system or else call an immensely ancient planet with one or more immensely ancient civlization's calling that planet there home, a planet that has a strong magnetosphere but orbit's much closer to it's star than the earth does to the sun but since it is in that stars goldilox zone that star therefore is a red dwarf, they would perhaps if there eye's then operated on the same principle's as our's likely see color differently as well since the spectra emitted by a red dwarf is shifted much further into the red and perhaps they could see infra red as well.

Perhaps we were seeded by a dying species closely related to us--a species who is/was desperately trying to re-gain their strength. So, ancient humans? Maybe, but I claim "ancient human-related species" more likely.

Humans (and anything alive for that matter) want to survive and ensure continuity of species, so the idea of being seeded as either an experiment or a back up by something very much like us isn't so far off.

Hi OG. Interesting ideas you have!

Your words, led to some ideas over here: What if Humanity was an ancient race, from a distant part of the Universe. Imagine that they were total arseholes, going around crushing other civilizations, and raping goldilocks-zone planets.
(Kinda like we have done in the last 2000 or so years).

Then many other races got together, and decided to eradicate the cancer of this destructive race.
As it became clear to Humanity that they would be crushed and annihilated, they sent out many small life-ships, containing the seed of Humanity, with the hope of one of them landing on a new untouched goldilocks planet: like Earth.
And Voila! Here be we!

Soon the coalition of other races will discover us, and see that we are no better than our ancestors.
But since this planet is a paradise, and because of the wondrous other species here, they would find a way to either knock us out with a virus or such, or try to reform us, with mysterious ways.
