so it looks like Russia shipping some ASM coverage with the K300p and a few 3K60 Bal batteries.

Japan is not happy about this in the least, the islands are a hot topic for Japan. Moving ASM sites to the islands seems like a pretty provocative move by Russia.

The U.S has send various flights over these islands and has said along with Japan(who says that the area the man made islands are, is there territory) and im sure has scanned and photographed and mapped these islands out the ying yang.

Are these ASM systems a real threat to U.S forces? i mean if they attacked a U.S air craft it would be all out war i would assume.

maybe the Russians are trying to get some radar and signals intel on various U.S air craft

I meant ASM anti ship missile

These aren't the man made islands. Japan and Russia have been disputing who owns the Kuril Islands since at least the end of WWII if not longer.

You need a scorecard to keep them all straight some days.

Yeah, the dispute would be settled if they did.

These two countries have no formal peace treaty.

However, to this day, Japan does not have a peace treaty with Russia. Japan hopes to see four islands returned, instead of just two that was agreed in the treaty. Japan is in no particular hurry to sign the treaty since there is no practical hindrance to the relationship with Russia without it.

Russia militarised these islands some time ago.

Parts of the Kuril Island chain were not returned to Japan after WW2. They were Soviet territorial gains. Not forgetting Sakhalin, which was another territorial gain.

Russia is sitting off the back of Soviet ethnic cleansing and occupation of Japanese lands. It would be nice for Russia to right the wrongs of the past, but that is not going to happen. And people complain about Israeli occupation and are happy to accept and support Russian occupation.
