I got lost in the verbiage. Freedom of speech covers freedom of expression.

That was my concern/question simply.

It's from the 1995 movie The American President and was said by President Andrew Shepard.

I forgot to add that part so thanks for asking. I fixed it.

Never saw it but now I want to watch it.

Some claim Trump is just trolling, as its already been brought before the SCOTUS a few times...

I think Trump's goal is to take it to the court again, have it shot down, and then use that as "proof" we need to overhaul the SCOTUS to ram fascist, authoritarian policies and usher in a dictatorship.

Trump's fanclub wouldn't bat an eye at that I sadly think.

Its the precursor to the tv show The West Wing. It is by Aaron Sorkin as well.

I liked the movie and ive used that quote several times on this site. Sorkin generally does a good job with presidential speeches on tv. He should be hired for a real President.

Overhaul the SCOTUS? Little bit hyperbolic don't you think?

I think it was his usual knee jerk reaction.

The supreme court has already ruled that burning the flag is protected speech. Who cares what he thinks?

I'm a lot more interested in his financial position with regard to DAPL, but the national media is consumed with his latest tweets (again).

Misdirection is the art of convincing your mark that they should pay attention to the exact wrong thing, at the exact right time.

Props to PE Trump. He is a master-magician.

Absolutely spot on.

not if the admin locks you out.

Trump can easily put-out a press release. Twitter is not his only way to communicate.

True, but i dont think hes actually going to do anything either. This is just propaganda and publicity stunting.
Although.. if i was trump id appoint judges to overturn or amend those decisions made by previous Supeme courts. Such as the Texas V white case.

Why would he want to paint himself as a fascist twat?

To distract from a string of conflict of interest stories?...
To appease his racist supporters before offering Romney a job?
Or maybe he is just angry nut bag sliding steadily into senility.

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the "land of the free".

- President Andrew Shepard The American President (1995)

Wow. That's it exactly. I think I need to watch that movie.

I do not agree with burning the Flag it represents the People...the nation not the criminal establishment that stand behind it and use it to start foreign wars pointing fingers at anyone who opposes them as anti patriotic.

But Trump is wrong on this one IMO.
Saying what he thinks is one thing and enacting it as law is another.

Hmm...

So, a few new SCOTUS appointments by Trump, and we could see no more flag burning. Possibly even outlawing kneeling while National Anthem is playing, and requiring people to give the 'American' salute in public.

Do we not have respect for anything any longer, burn the flag? Are you not happy ur not giving the nazi salute or walking a couple miles for a bucket of water? Freedom of speech? Come to Canada and burn my my flag, I'll wrap it around ur neck. Come on people, draw the line somewhere.

Nope. If he thinks his fanclub wants it, he'll pitch it.

Trump has no actual beliefs or convictions of his own, he's a thin-skinned, unoriginal, weak, people pleaser. He desperately wants to be liked by other rich people.

Trump wants so badly to be respected by the billionaire class, instead of being mocked and unable to get into Bohemian Grove. So, he ran for POTUS after having his ego bruised one to many times (probably the WH correspondent's dinner is what did it).

He has no original ideas or thoughts, and goes along with whatever the flavor of the weak is.

If he thinks people want something, he'll fish around and gauge public opinion and then push for it. He's a bread & circus ring master...
