Is this still a largely populated area? I didn't think it was anymore due to past events.

Hopefully nobody gets hurt.

Hearing all nuclear plants have been taken off line and are preparing....not that this gives me much comfort.

You're right. It takes a long time to shut down a nuclear power plant. It takes time to get workers there too.

Livefeed is showing backwash still going out from the landside....that's a lot of water movement. This could be bad.

Looks like they are still observing backwash at the shore near Fukushima...

I think the inner ring is not residential anymore, but a lot of workers and some business is there. It is not a huge area surrounding it that has been condemned for residences.

Watching the livestream and seeing the backwash still going on, I can't help but get a sinking feeling that this tsunami is going to be more destructive than first thought

How long does a 3 meter tsunami take to travel 20km? It hasn't hit yet. Hopefully this gives people a chance to get to safety.

Water is gone now, you can see the sand of the bay.

Hope the people make it to high groynd quickly.

Luckily the Japanese are very disciplined in these situations.

NHK reported no change at Fukushima Daiichi and no additional radiation release.

Of course, we all know how reliable Japanese news was during the original Fukushima disaster.

I am surprised there is still a boat out there. I wonder what they are doing.

ETA: Just saw the post above mine, I think that's crazy too.

Barely a blip on the MSM outlets, it's all politics.

My thought and prayers go out to all the families involved. Let's hope the sea walls hold up.

Respectfully,

I count 4 aftershocks, from 4.8 to 5.4, all shallow.

There seems to have been a few small foreshocks.
