Isn't it interesting how we can hold our children to a higher standard, than we do for a guy like this?

All right then. Let's suppose it is a hypothetical - should a middle school aged girl be treated like a crook for having child safe butter knife in her lunch box for the purpose of cutting up her own food?

Oh, and apparently, sharing with another child who does not have a peach is bad, m'kay? Or at least, if you must share, make you do so in the most unhygienic way possible. We must make sure you share your mumps or mono or whatever it is you have.

Oh, not necessarily.

As you read this, understand the only reason that there was any action at all was because the parents got angry, and these kids aren't suspended and the teacher was only "reprimanded" and required to apologize.

Stragne how all of you can see this is extraordinary actions against a little girl innocently cutting a peach. And yet undocumented immigrants who only came here to work and seek a better life are criminals and deserving of immediate deportation, even if it breaks up their family and sends them back to a worse place. Those outlaw undocumented immigrants! And oh btw the "criminal" undocumented immigratns Trump speaks of might only have traffic violations. How many of you actually looked to see what sort of crimes they've committed and whether they served any time? Too much effort.

Evil butter knife wielding children and illegal aliens from other worlds are invading these lands! We will protect ourselves by enforcing insane laws! By God's grace we hired an insane leader who can do this finally!

So you're saying that little girls need to adhere to the letter of every law, but illegal immigrants are supposed to be above the law? Because if that is what you're saying, you are dead wrong. Laws were put in place to apply equally to everybody or they will not work or do the job they were designed to do; which is to have a workable society. Kind of like America today - see how the laws aren't being enforced equally upon every single person? How's this working out? Not too well.

You also did yourself an injustice trying to link what the girl did with those "crazy" people that also believe in UFOs. UFOs have absolutely nothing to do with this story, so stop trying to make people look bad by implication!

There are lots No kids around our town ever thought about killing a lot of other students with a gun or knife.

That is precisely the new problem! We have to also start banning these assault knives!

(Sarcasm intended.)

This is the problem with zero tolerance policy though. It allows for no common sense.

A rule that says no knives likely has the parent thinking of actual sharp cutting edges. A butter knife is less sharp than the average pair of classroom scissors, particularly the version of a butter knife made specially for children.

A common sense interpretation is that no one was really in danger from this "dangerous" weapon ... except maybe a peach.

It is policies like this one that lead kids to be suspended for gnawing their Pop Tarts into vaguely gun shaped blobs.

Give the little child 6months hard labor and make an example out of her just so her little class mates don't turn into terrorists...

Criminal charges... WTF The world has become unstable.
I hope it doesn't take a dozen BIG steroid induced police men to arrest her if it comes down to it..!

pencils have a place in the classroom.
butter knives from home not so much.

Not like it could be used to cut a peach or anything .... or is food not allowed at school?

Bickering over interpretation is trite. The law is the law.

A bit of common sense is needed. What "message" is the 11 year old going to carry the rest of her life. She see's the likes of the Clinton Foundation get away with fraud and payments for access to lucrative deals, she sees millions killed and displaced from the Middle East all in the name of "regime change".

The Law is only selectively applied. I have no time for the "Law" when it creates a society of meek compliant human's. We are sheep heading for slaughter. Will you rat out your neighbour or friend because they break some minor transgression?

It was a child size butter knife for God's sake

www.local10.com...

for using a child-proof utensil that could never be construed in any form as a weapon in order to share part of her lunch with a fellow classmate. "This item at all times was used in the school's lunch room as it should be-- to cut a peach and share lunch with a friend,"

Discretion should have been used by the school.

That's a brilliant thread!! Is there anyway we could flag anyone who agrees with this? I doubt it Even better, anyway to move this nationwide to identify any one person who agrees with this?!? Until we can make common sense match up with law we are all fkt. I remember taking a plastic knife to school to cut my tomatoe for my sandwich cause otherwise the breads all soggy! Don't remember a teacher thinking it was a lethal weapon! The state were in! ... I wonder wil it get better? Will we go full circle? Will our kids laugh at us "you couldn't take a plastic knife to school to cut Ur sandwich ?!!? Lol" .. I hope so. a reply to: imd12c4funn

Unfortunately, there seems to be a double edged policy where, at least in my state, a Student who is a practicing Sikh was able to wear a Kirpan to school without being suspended. As a matter of fact, the Kent School District (just South of Seattle/Renton/Tukwila area) had sought "resources outside of their expertise" including meetings with a Sikh Coalition on Kirpan to share information with school district staff, parents and students and helping them to understand that it is just a religious practice. etc...
Link

Maybe Florida should seek outside expertise regarding the cutting of a peach rather than suspending a student for using a perceived banned item to do so.

IMO it's policies like this that contributed to Trump getting elected.

right, uh huh...it's because of trumps espoused policies that would have allowed that girl to bring a knife to school, that's why he won...

No, because the left lacks common sense, and while Trump likely will too, people know what we have is not working and are desperate.

"Oh, excuse me - - the rule that equally applies to everyone - - excludes you - - because you're a good girl".

If the rule is no knives - - - that means NO KNIVES.

Oh come on Annee. Can you imagine your own child possibly being denied admittance to a good university because they brought a child safe butter knife in their lunch to split a peach?

I actually know a brilliant young man, who after surviving two liver transplants and still maintaining perfect grades, lost his Harvard scholarship because he was charged with a misdemeanor for pulling in a parking lot after hours after a friend waved him over. The horses ass with a badge refused to give him a warning, just like the horses asses who decided to punish this innocent child did not just give a warning.

The world is not and never has been black and white. Equating this with someone bringing a real knife to school to hurt people is just plain old fashioned cruel and incredibly dumb IMO.

I'm a gramma 3 times, and currently raising an 8 year old.

He is responsible for his actions. Someone talks to him in class, he responds - - he gets in trouble - - HIS fault.

Cooperating with the school, working with the school, making sure your child knows "A rule is a rule" - - - goes a long way.

Running to the media? No so much.

Per usual with these stories - - - I doubt we have the full story.
